“Absolutely loved it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2009

We stayed 2 nights as that was all that was available - in one of the $90 small rooms (not a suite) and it was absolutely wonderful and a complete bargain. We had previously stayed 2 nights in the Aurora hotel (which had better reviews on here) and paid either $60 or $70 but the Mezon Panza Verde was so worth the extra and would have been worth much more.

Our room was quite small but really romantic, it had its own patio and a gas burner which was lovely. We arrived after dark and the hotel was so beautiful, lit up with candles. We also loved the roof terraces and spent the whole of the next day just lounging around the hotel. We really wished we could have stayed longer. We used the pool as well which was nice but you couldn't use it during the hours the restaurant was open.

We had booked in advance to eat in the restaurant on our second night but as soon as we arrived we both knew we wanted to eat there twice and luckily they fit us in with a table just next to the pool. We stayed Wednesday and Thursday night so a band was playing in the restaurant both nights. I would say worth arranging your trip around this as both were brilliant. The food and wine and atmosphere in the restaurant were sensational - definitely not cheap (UK prices) but worth every penny. We loved the fact that we came out of our room staight into the restaurant but some people might not.

We had rearranged our trip so that we could stay in one of the romantic hotels in Antigua as they were all booked up the weekend we first arrived so we went to Lake Atitlan and came back. I was worried that it would mean spending too long in Antigua but we were so glad we did just so we had the experience of staying here. It was the highlight of our stay in Guatemala.

Charming small hotel hidden behind the door. This is a lovely property in walking distance to the the Parc Central. The rooms are well decorated with Guatemalan style and little luxuries. A box of chocolates, fresh water, coffee, tea and a small refridgerator are in the rooms. Make sure you explore the roof top terraces!

We booked a suite. iI was gorgeous and lots of space.

The breakfasts were the best we had in Guatemala and the restaurant and bar were great. The staff is helpful and the service level is very good.

Several evenings a week there is live music in the restaurant area and it is good listening!

Only two small quibbles- the beds are very hard and if you have a room near the restaurant, the music may disturb you if you want to retire before 10.30 pm.

We stayed at Meson Panza Verde for 2 nights at the end of a trip to Guatemala and Belize in November 2008. We got one of their standard rooms - rate was $90 US a night I believe, including breakfast. Everything about this hotel was great - elegant rooms (even ours, which was one of the smaller ones), fantastic restaurant, gorgeous pool, friendly staff. You would pay 3-4 times the price for the quality of the rooms and service if this hotel was located in Canada or the US, and more than that in Europe. It was luxurious but affordable and we would definitely go back there again! Antigua is fantastic as well.

We stayed at this hotel for the first time on January 9, 2009.
We were in suite #8 which was gorgeous. We were close to the music however did not hear it as we were having a private dinner in the art gallary on the roof. The staff was so wonderful in making the arrangements and everything turned out perfect.
If you would like to do something a special for a loved one - request a private dinner in the cupula. They had rose petals, candles, music, dozen red roses, private waiter ... it was fantastic and a wonderful anniversary celebration for my husband and I.
You do have to pay a little extra for that service on top of the dinner but, its well worth it. Dinner and dessert was amazing. . The staff at the hotel goes above and beyond to make your stay perfect. We found most of the staff speaks English very well and if they know you speak English will automatically speak to you in English rather than Spanish first. If you want something a little extra during your stay - I would highly recommend this hotel. It is a little bit of a walk from the central park area but, for a romantic getaway ... it is perfect!

  • Liked — Scenary is beautiful, loved the flowers and view from the roof top patio

I never write reviews, but this place moved me so that I just had to share. After living in Central America for five years and traveling around there just as long, this is by far my favorite place to stay. Probably in the world.

Honestly, folks, it is is sumptuously romantic beyond belief. There are nooks and crannies and starlight to explore, there are stone spiral staircases, art gallery, garden, jazz-loungy place, gormet food. My husband and I stayed there after spending several nights at an acceptable and similarily priced place right in the middle of Antigua. We toured all the well-known hotels and b&bs, because we love getting ideas for our own historic resotoration efforts. After seeing dozens of hotels, Panza Verde still completely took our breath away. We love art, architecture, romance, good food, ambiance, and fabulous but non-smothering service. It was all of these to an unbelievable extreme. If you're looking for privacy, decadence, and romance, by all means get yourself here, even if you weren't planning a trip to Antigua.

This hotel is astonishingly beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous -- stone arches, walled courtyards and monastic domes surrounded by lush flowers and fountains, with unobstructed views of the majestic volcano from the roof. The rooms are elegant and decadent -- private courtyards, huge tiled bathtubs, high ceilings, antique furniture, and working stove ireplaces. The food is delicious, particularly the brunch. And the hotel is located a short walk from the central park. It may be the most romantic place I have had the privilege of staying. Just beautiful!

Meson Panza Verde is a beautiful hotel - but I am also one who appreciates clean lines and white sheets but if you like Opulence then this is the hotel for you.

It's got a lap pool, and a great restaurant. The rooms were over the top beautiful and the grounds were reminiscent of a faraway time. Hammocks all over the place, it's a very beautiful hotel indeed.

We stayed in two rooms at the Meson Panza Verde, just because we want to experience the different rooms available. The first room is on the ground floor and we had our own garden patio, the second room was upstairs - the staff moved us to this room while we were out climbing a volcano, Volcan Pacaya and they managed to not lose a single item while moving us to the new room.

The pictures will speak for itself I believe...
