“Daily walk”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

I passed through here every morning on my way to Spanish language classes. Every day I walked under these arches I felt this amazing connection with Guatemala and its history. You also get a great view from the Park. They are working on renovations on the inside which seems to be an on-going process. This is a site that you will only have outside access to, but one that should not be missed. Also, great photo opps of your loved ones or fellow travelers.

“Impressive columned building under renovation”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

Adding a level of architectural beauty to the square. Still being renovated and not yet known what it is going to be used for. Hopefully something to enhance the centre further.

“Outside photo op only”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

Nice building with 27 arches on both floors. No entry as it is still used for various government functions. Can't miss it as everyone goes to the central plaza and it forms the south side.

“Interesting cultural event in front of the palace”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

The front of the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales is impressive looking but there is not much going on inside. One morning during our visit in September there was a cultural event going on in front of the colonnaded façade. Vendors were set up selling local products and textiles. Also, Mayans from the mountains were dressed in colorful costumes and performed dances on a stage set up between the park and the palace.

“Only a facade”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

It is nice to walk under the colonnaded facade of this building. It will be interesting to see how this property is finally developed. There are nice views of the park across the street and the cathedral.
