Owner description: First constructed in the 17th century, this church was destroyed by earthquakes and rebuilt many times. What can be seen today are the remains from the last earthquake in 1976.

If you want to have a realistical look at how a convent (and especially its church) must have looked just after the 1773 earthquake, go to La Recolección! You walk in between the broken down blocs of wall-roof. On Sundays locals come here to picnic on the grass in front and in the cloisters which have been turned into a garden.

This church collapsed in 1701 and it feels like it happened yesterday. I took more photos here than anywhere else. They've done nothing to restore it, which is what I liked best. Being able to walk among the giant pieces of debris was fascinating to me.

A great place to get some nice photos. I'd rank it even with Capuchinas and slightly ahead of Santa Clara for photography.

Without a guide, La Recoleccion is just a heap of ruins...no leaflet, nothing...I would not recommend it really, there are so many nice places to see in Antigua...

I liked these ruins, which are on the east side of Antigua. They are small enough to see in 30-60 minutes. It seems to be a popular place for young lovers, as is the case with many of the ruins. Our guide showed us around and gave a nice history of the place
