“Unsolicited guide”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Beautiful place still undergoing restoration. We were approached by a guide with authentic looking clothing with name badge. We allowed him to give us a tour witch was very good but neglected to negotiate the price as we falsely assumed he was an employee. At the end he wanted $100 US!!. We ended up at $20. Lesson learned.

“Worth it!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

If you tell them you are a teacher, you can get the student price of 20Q. Very beautiful and well worth the stop.

“Quite striking, do not miss!”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

On a previous trip to Antigua, I had visited the ruins / museum / church of San Francisco, which is probably the most popular and important sight in town. So on this trip, I wanted to try something different (I had an hour to kill one afternoon after work). Walk east from the Central Plaza two blocks and make a right on 2a Avenida and head south a few blocks and the Convent of Santa Clara will be on your left just after you cross 6a Calle (by the way, the public laundry basins will be on your right just before you reach 6a Calle). There is a major, gated entrance but that is not the entrance for tourists, you have to look for a simple door and foyer that is barely marked. Entrance fee is 40Q and it is open til 5pm.

The grounds are rather large and there is quite a lot to see! The ornamental carvings on the first façade in the foyer are quite good and then it leads out into the grounds with a full garden, fountain, quite a few buildings and walkways and even some underground passages (bring a torch). The grounds are being renovated so there is some construction equipment about but that is not too distracting. I really enjoyed my hour here, it was very striking and peaceful. I would definitely recommend it.

“Lots to see, lots to explore”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

This ruin is somewhat off the beaten path which makes it great to explore and have some tranquil time away from the most busy ruins. There are a lot of places you explore within the ruin. You can sit and relax in the courtyard or walk through the many halls. There are some re-stored features that other churches don't have such as the confession rooms and some rooms that have been somewhat restored.

Overall, this ruin is different from most and you can spend a good amount of time exploring it.

“Great ruin to explore”

Amazing architecture, lovely landscaping. We saw people just relaxing and picnicking in the courtyard, which seemed a good thing to do.
