Overall we thoroughly enjoyed this experience!!!
Firstly ensure the booking agent writes down your correct hotel for pick up as we had to go bck to the agent after 20 mins past our due pick up, luckily the agent was 100m away. This happened to another couple as well which made us late getting away. Our initial van pick up took us to a larger bus to meet the rest if our group, approx 16. To our surprise they pointed out an coffee and bakery shop to everyone before departure which was a nice surprise as we were told there's available at that hour (7am). We had prepared snacks the night before but can always use a coffee. The trip takes an hour by charter bus and is quite bumpy. The driver explained once there that the guys waiting outside the bus with horses aren't with them and we don't need to use them. An older lady fluent in Spanish did hire a horse to get 2/3 the way up but it's an easy climb for about 1-1.5hr depending on fitness. We had a guide included in our ride cost of US$10 or GTQ$150. Park entry is GTQ$50. Wear proper shoes!!! As there's an optional downhill shingle run which is awesome!!!! Near the top the guide informs us his tour costs stop here but for a voluntary tip he will take us higher to see/touch the rock that is omitting steam. So we tipped GTQ$10 for this an also got the downhill run :). Scenery is beautiful. At the bottom where your bus is be prepared for the kids to request money or some of your snacks.

Even if we didn't climb up to the top, it was not permitted, the whole experience is nice. The climb is not so easy, the path is very good by the way. There is great view to the rest three volcanos. Take something food, to warm it up on the top, where there is smoke of the volcano.

it was a good trek however there is little information to be gathered on site about the volcano. Worth a visit though, beautiful views

Be in shape, as the hike is a continuous uphill walk. Horses are available, if you can't make it. I wanted the exercise and was glad we had some rest stops, to catch my breath. We were kept together as a group of 14 plus our guide who spoke only limited English, but that was no problem. At the top there is a refreshment stand and opportunity to buy volcanic dust souvenirs.
I didn't like being 14 people in a 15 pax van to get there - it was crowded and uncomfortable! I would suggest to try to pay more and have fewer people in the van. $10 for the ride was great, but I'd rather pay more and have come comfort - and many others agreed with me on the miserable ride.

We went to the volcano with Adrenalina tours. When we got to the mountain, we met our guide. He was very friendly and told us a lot about the volcano and the history of the area. He was very knowledgeable. He was also very patient with older members of our group. When we reached the end of the climb, we were able to roast marshmallow. It was very fun. Great views and very interesting.
