“Easy hike, awesome views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

Do this hike early in the morning so the rpobabilities of you to se the pacific ocean are better, bring a sweater it can get windy at the top. Is not a difficult hike but you can take a horse taxi to take you if you don't want to walk. The views of the caldera and the horizon were volcan de Fuego and Acatenango (I believe) are worth the hike. You can buy walking sticks for 5 quetzales about $0.65.

“What a view, definitely worth the journey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

Climbing Pacaya is fun and strenuous (for some of us). Our guide was wonderful and patient. We climbed to the top (including two kids) and enjoyed lunch while checking out the view. Climbing a volcano is definitely an experience to remember! One of the highlights of our trip!

“Only if there is lava flowing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

It is a nice day trip from Antigua but has some hooks. To many horses, it smells quite a bit if you are walking up. You do need a guide for " security reason " but it is for to making money. The guides have no equipment , radio or first aid !!! If there is a lava flow its spectacular.

“Good Hike”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

This is a hard hike but a good one. There are horses for hire at the beginning and if you are not in shape you may need one. Our guide stopped for breaks frequently though. I was somewhat disappointed though because there is no longer any flowing lava on the top. It is still hot in spots. You can even cook a marshmallow if your guide brings them. The black landscape and views are interesting and beautiful. A great way to spend the morning.
