Owner description: Destroyed twice by earthquakes, this 1548 church was rebuilt in the 1700s to withstand earthquakes and boasts a lovely yellow façade and a huge stone fountain, reputed to be the largest in Central America.

There are so many churches and religious ruins it is difficult to find the 'differentiator' between them. We were there on Sunday and were surprised by the people milling around the church in the evening eating their snacks purchased from the many mobile vendors.

We are not religious but we can appreciate a lovely church and this is one. Beautiful architecture. Near some lovely restaurants and shops as well.

This is a working church. Interesting food vendors in the park outside. It is worth paying to see the monastery, which is partly in ruins. Nice views of the city and the volcanos from the second level, and interesting signs. We could see them getting the large floats ready for the Holy Week processions.,

It's a bright yellow, baroque church well worth the visit. The monastery attached is worth the small entrance fee even though it is not completely restored. Good views from the upper terrace. Fountain must have been really something when operational. Worth visiting.

I would definitely recommend to go and experience the real Guatemalan typical food. The food is very cheap and the people treat you really good. You need to sit on the floor or eat standing up but that's what makes it more special.
