Having been in Guatemala over 20 times in the past three years, I have had occasion to stay at the CSD and eat there several times. The bottom line is this: the rooms, with the exception of the fireplaces and balconies, do not even meet Hampton Inn standards; the wireless is spotty and overpriced ($15), and the service is desultory. Bathrooms are dingy and magnets for foot rot (see other posters' reviews) and lightbulbs are so low wattage you almost want to take up a collection for Con Ed to come visit. Gym is terrific -- never again will I be on a treadmill facing bougainvillea and ancient walls! -- and food is okay. Grounds are wonderful, but beware the wedding guests: they are loud, drunk, and tolerated by management since this is their cash cow. Also, as other guests have posted, beware the unauthorized charges on your bill; peruse it with a gimlet eye before you sign on the dotted line. One word of warning that is beyond the hotel's control: The CSD is on the outskirts of town. Antigua is not the safe haven it used to be; take a tuk-tuk after dark and even in daylight hours, be aware of who is within your line of vision.
