This restaurant is also a plant resort where you can find a lot of beautiful flower, plants and amazing things for your garden. The food is good and the environment is so so so among all the beautiful plants!!!.. the food is cheap and it tastes good! The service is good too and the location is great, a nice place to relax and have a good time with your significant one or friends (not a party place). Here is some useful info: http://www.laescalonia.com/home.htm

BTW, plants are really really really cheap so its also a nice place to get ideas for your garden and make it looks so much better!

After yoga at the Panza Verde my friend and I met the owner of Escalonia, Juan Carlos, and he invited us to his cafe. It's a bit outside of town along a beautiful residential street giving you a feel of what Antigua was like in the old days. The cafe is in the vivero (a lovely place to wander around in) and is a relaxing and beautiful spot to be with nature, drink the best coffee ever and eat healthy food - especially the breakfasts. The bread is baked onsite with healthy ingredients and the food is delishes. But it's the atmosphere that makes you want to hang around with the smells of the hanging orchids and flowers, the smiling faces of the happy people that work there and especially the friendliness of the other patrons. A trully special place worth the extra walk!

Expensove food but excellent taste. Eating among the many plants and flowers creates an atmosphere of harmony and peace.

I am seated here at the restaurant as I type. It is a beautiful, lush location. The music is boring and distracts from the natural wildlife sounds. It would be better turned off.

They allow dogs which is a big bonus. And the waiter is very attentive.

The food that we ordered was the veggie burger and tasted pretty much like burnt cardboard. I am not sure if they fail miserably with the veggie burger and do better with other dishes.

Nonetheless I am certain to be coming back here because it is beautiful, relaxing, allows dogs, and has free wifi. Hopefully other items on the menu will be more interesting.

Escalonia is a Vivero and cafe (coffee shop and a gardens). Located on the southern edge of antigua, this place was a paradise, especially if you want to have a healthy lunch. The restaurant is situated under beautiful escalonia flowers hanging from the roof. The food is freshly made to order and you get a feeling that you are somewhere in Italy, at least that was my sense.

I ordered a chicken sandwich with tomato sauce which was tasty full of herbs and spices and tomatoes. I found it a bit salty but great nonetheless.

I really had a relaxed time and I also checked out their gardens. Free wifi. About 20 minute walk from central park on 5th avenue.
