Hotel Posada San Vicente
Ranked #17 of 134 Antigua B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 30, 2012

This hotel has recently been upgraded with new paint and remodeled bathrooms. Centrally located, walking distance to many attractions like market places, restaurants, ruins, and cathredals.Clean rooms and grounds, Lovely fountain, plants, and artwork in the courtyard. Helpful people at the front desk. The only negative is the cement walls and floor in the courtyard causing noise to carry quite well. However, the management is quick to quiet noisy guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs in the back.

I decided to give this hotel a chance even though they weren`t a lot of commentaries.

Good points : clean, comfortable bed, quiet away from street noise, pleasant staff.

Not so strong points : wi-fi service not available inside the room but only past the reception entrance in the alley, no breakfast or even simple coffee, no personal laundry service, central fountain not functioning.

Room Tip: No elevator but stairs, Stay on ground floor if you have knee problems.

We thank this guest for his review, and for pointing out a few things, good and bad. He said there was no elevator, which is right, and if anyone has ever been to Antigua Guatemala, they would realize this is an out of place statement. Antigua Guatemala is city over 400 years old and being a Unisco World Heritage site, we have to keep building as original as possible. No elevators 400 years ago, and this is the reason there is not 1 single elevator in the city.

We do have Wi-fi in all the hotel, including the rooms. It just so happened, when this guest was here, 2 of our internet routers got fried by a power zap and did not work. It took us a couple of days to replace these, but now there is good signal in all the hotel.

Being a budget hotel, rooms for $25 to $45, we do not serve breakfast. We do offer breakfast for groups at a small additional cost. Also, there are many restaurants within a 2 minute walk of the hotel. In the hotel corridor, there is free coffe and purified water 24 hours per day. I guess this guest did not see it, but the coffee is in a large 40 cup shiny metal dispenser highly visible to anyone walking around the hotel. It is made fresh daily.

We do offer full service personal laundry service for $5 (wash, dry, fold & return to your room), and this guest knew it. He just did not want to pay for it. I am sorry, but we can not include everything into the price of a $25 room. I do not know of any reasonable priced hotel that offers this for free, but maybe he does. We should ask.

Last, but not least, the central fountain is beautiful and works fine. The receptionists normally turns it on in the late morning and turns it off at night. It is a very large fountain with lots of water flow. So, it makes lots of white noise, but too much to sleep with. Thus, we do not run it during normal sleeping hours.

The good points this guest listed are great and true. Please visit us for yourself, and you will realize Posada San Vicente is a good value for your money.

The hotel has a pretty courtyard, but the family who manages the place lives at the hotel, and they are out in the courtyard all day and well into the evening. There was constant noise, yelling back and forth between family members, their dog barking, and their parrot talking and squawking all day. This started early every morning and continued until the family went to bed. We stayed 2 nights and moved to another hotel. In addition, the beds were very soft, and for Q200 (US$25.00) there were plenty of other choices. I would not recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are brighter but cost more. My advice is to find another place to stay.

I have recently purchased this hotel and the family that owned & lived there have moved. So, the noise problems have been solved. Also, we are in the process of remodeling the entire property. This includes adding all new beds and furniture. We appreciate all reviews and hope the future reviews are much better, as we will offer a much better hotel and service to our guest.

This modest hotel is a two-story building with rooms all facing a courtyard in the middle with a tropical garden (complete with talking parrot). The beds were not good, and the hot water was spotty even though there are electric water heaters are on the shower heads. The rooms are very dark. They don't have a restaurant on site, but there is a very good place just across the street plus dozens more restaurants and cafes within a couple of blocks. The location is very convenient, just a couple of blocks from the central park.

It's family-owned and -operated, and there are multiple generations living there. This plus the courtyard design results in quite a bit of noise from people, animals, running the washing machine early in the morning, etc. There's a bell on the gate for people to ring at night that you can hear in your room. Definitely bring ear plugs. The staff was friendly and helpful. They also run a travel agency and can help you book tours to other parts of the country, for example.

As the new owner of this hotel, we are making many positive changes. We are in the process of remodeling the entire property. This includes adding all new beds and furniture, painting, making the 3rd level terrace a beautiful place to sit and take in the views & repairing any problems. We will also offer breakfast to all guest, at a small additional cost.

This hotel had a great location situated just around the corner from the central square. The courtyard and rooms were picturesque representing just the right mix of antique and simple to justify the low price that we paid for this great hotel and supporting our delusion that we were still on our honeymoon.

Having looked at loads of hostels in Antigua and stayed in one other, I think that Posada San Vincente must be one of the best. I stayed 4 nights and really could not fault it. The owners/staff were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble, the room was clean and quiet, the location excellent, the wi-fi genuinely existed (not like in may places) and it was also very good value, being alot cheaper than many worse quality places. I could not recommend Posada San Vincente more highly.

Room Tip: I asked for the upstairs one on the end, which I think may have been the best and quietest.
