Improvement needed. I understand this is not a five star, major chain hotel, but it needs to have their basics covered. During checkout time, I had to dig in for cash to pay for laundry. They hire an outside service, and ask their guests to pay in cash on a separate bill, making it annoying if you don't have any cash. They would not take a credit card to pay for laundry, so I could not check out until I found cash. They should take credit a card payment for all services rendered.
Front door to my room was lose, and very difficult to lock from the inside. After trying for a couple minutes, I just simply gave up and went to sleep with an open door during all my stay. You can however, lock it from the outside. I did not report it because I would not spend any time inside, and did not want a maintenance crew or person to walk into the room without adequate security.
Room safe is old and did not work electronically, but because I was given a key to operate it, I figured it would open and close with it, but not the case, bottom line I had to walk around with all my belongings, cash, passport, etc.
Two people for one room, at least at the one I was in, is too many, if you want space to move around, you need to ask for a larger room. Room is so small you can hardly walk yourself, let alone with one more person with you. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t do it, if you’re a honeymooner, find a bigger place where you will have privacy.
It is located a block or two from a cathedral, close to the town square, but did not figure out why their name, but when I went inside, then noticed lots of statues of saints, etc, crosses, hence the name. You really feel you are inside a cathedral. If you don’t mind having breakfast surrounded by all sorts of religious statues that seem to be looking at you, then this is your place.
Breakfast starts at 7:00 AM. If you don’t mind waiting until then, there’s no problem, but if you are an early riser, then you will have issues. There are other places around town that open at 6:00 am.
Shower curtain kept falling, not a big deal, but it becomes one, when you have to pick it up more than once during a shower. It is obvious there is a lack of proper, constant maintenance.
Price does not go along with their services. Too much for what you get.
During my absence, room was not cleaned, they just made the bed, trash was still in the bin, toiletries were not renewed, had to use the same soap for three days.
I left a day early to get a room in Guatemala City. Did not make the least effort to get my money back as I had paid in advance. Been there, done that. I made the mistake of buying through a travel website, and once you do that, you pretty much will not get it back.
I would not stay again or recommend.

This is a really beautiful hotel with a great location. Marco and the rest of the staff were wonderful. Inquiries sent by email are responded to very quickly. When we left to spend a couple of nights in Tikal, we were allowed to leave a couple of pieces of luggage which helped a lot. The luggage was waiting for us in the room when we returned and checked back in. Portions at breakfast were generous, the food was delicious, and the laundry service was excellent. If you are thinking about staying here during the season of Lent, keep in mind that this hotel is adjacent to the cathedral, so some of the processions can be loud. I think this is our favorite hotel in all of Central/South America.

The service and breakfast were excellent. The entire staff went out of their way to accomodate the odd schedule we were operating on. The rooms varied greatly - we stayed in both room 6 and room 8 on our two stays in antigua. Room six is pretty dark and being on the street a bit noisy. Room eight was brighter and very quiet - an interior room. Don't expect hot water - it does get warm after a while but that's it. The location is perfect.

La Catedral was no doubt one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The
room was lovely, furnished with antique style furniture and a spotless and
very stylish en suite. The rooms are arranged around tranquil and beautiful
manicured internal gardens. Everything shows quality, like the toilletries,
the towels or even the tissues. The breakfast was also delicious, with many
choices a la carte, but what really sets it aside was the service. There
was complimentary water in the room everyday (2 half litre bottles), there
were two little chocolates placed at the bedside table everyday, the bed
was even made twice a day, if it was unmade during the day (they would make
it when coming in while we were away to leave the chocolates). There was a
complimentary glass of wine/beer/juice offered at the hotel bar. We left it
to the last night, when they were out of juice, so we asked for two waters instead,
which they gave us and said that the next day they would give us the juice.
Indeed at breakfast they gave us two cans of apple juice. There was one
night when we were short of water. My husband went to reception to buy two
bottles from them. They brought them to our room and charged nothing for
them, even though we have had already our two complementary bottles that
day. When we had to leave at 6am to climb the Pacaya, they provided us with
a packed breakfast as the breakfast at the hotel started at 7am. Nothing
was ever too much or any bother for them. The staff was always extremely
helpful and always had a smile for us. And of course, location was
brilliant, just round the corner from the Parque Central. I would most
definitively recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Antigua.

The service, rooms and breakfast are great. Room are decorated in a spanish colonial way. The hotel has a great courtyard where u can have breakfast or drinks. The staff is very helpful with directions and information. You can arrange shuttle to the airport for 20 dollars per person in a private air conditioned van. Is a very cozy and green place!

Couldn't have done better. Delightful courtyard surrounded by just seven rooms - better book early. Perfect location - right around the corner from the central plaza and the cathedral. Excellent choice of breakfasts. Marco and staff most helpful, courteous, friendly, welcoming. Good bar. Secure, gated parking. Room a bit small but adequeate, more than adequate size bathroom, everything nicely furnished. Perfect place to stay in a perfect town to visit. We stayed for six nights and could have stayed a lot longer and enjoyed the town and the surroundings. Side trip to Tikal a must but better plan on spending the night in Tikal so you are not rushed and the experience of an evening in the jungle is worth it. The most convenient way to travel to Tikal is from Guatemala City because that's where you catch the plane. From Antigua, it adds another two hours (taxi ride to airport and the wait there).............Jean and Gautam Shah, Colorado, USA
