“A gem hidden away.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

I visited Don Martin while in Guatemala for a few weeks. You might be wondering "Where is it?" "It seems out of the way." Nothing in Antigua is really that far of a walk. I recommend Don Martin to those who want good food, excellent ambiance and a cheerful host. Put this restaurant on your "visit" list you will not be let down.

Good selection with an excellent green mango salad.

“Unknown and Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

Like other reviewers here, I am not sure why this place isn't better known. Located close to La Merced, and a few blocks from the park it was easy to find. Nice ambiance with candle lighting and although the chairs were plastic they are nicely covered in fabric.
Dinner reasonably priced, better than other restaurants with comparable menue, and the food and service was excellent. 2 bottles of wine, 2 steaks, dessert and one drink for under $100US.
And dessert...I have been hard pressed to find too many places with good dessert in Antigua, but the dark chocolate truffel was beautiful. I will be going back to try the white chocolate version soon!

“Why Isn't This Place Better Known?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2012

A simply charming venue with very, very good food and an owner/host who really seems to care. Quite an extensive menu, both international and traditional, with a large selection of soups, salads, pastas, and main courses. The meal started with an amuse of ceviche and blue tortilla chips, obviously house made and delightfully crispy. I started with an outstanding green mango salad and followed it up with a well prepared steak with red wine mushroom sauce that was served with a selection of not overcooked miniature carrots, zucchini, squash, green beans, and turnips. And a bit of overcooked rice to sop up the sauce. Much too full to even look at the dessert menu. A fair selection of okay wines, with a number of half, third, and quarter bottles on the list. All very modestly priced with the most expensive main courses at little more than $10. Difficult to understand why I was one of only three customers on the Saturday before Semana Santa. Don Martin deserves to be better known.

“A Hidden Gem in Antigua”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2011

What a little gem this restaurant is! The owner attended a cooking school in New Orleans, so his English and the food were both delightful. The menu offered a wide variety and the restaurant is quiet and charming. It's near to La Merced, on 4th Avenida Norte. You could easily walk past it if you're not paying attention - but I'm glad I didn't miss it! (And the prices were really reasonable!)

“Charming small restaraunt with very amiable service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2011

We were looking for something personable and not too expensive, and were pleasantly surprised by Don Martin. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. The restaraunt is just a few blocks off the beaten track, which is nice as it is near the center of Antigua but quiet. My husband had a fettucine alfredo followed by a delicious steak, and I had a wonderful fish plate, accompanied by a Chilean chardonnay. The food was the best we had during our time in Antigua.
