This was the second hotel my husband and I stayed in our trip to La Antigua.
The hotel is only 2 years old and it was built to resemble a colonial house. It was very pretty. It only has 6 rooms and a small courtyard and terrace. Our room, "La Tartana," was nice with a king size bed, a fireplace and the bathroom has a tub and great water pressure and hot water at any time.
The service was very professional and friendly. I didn't care much about the continental breakfast that it was included. Just some fruit, coffee and bread and cookies with butter and Heinz marmalade.
The hotel is conveniently located just off the Parque Central, but next to a bar/restaurant that can be noisy at night and you hear the music from your room.
The place is very secured because they keep the door/iron gate locked all the time.
D'Leyenda Hotel is a very good hotel choice.

It's all about location - you won't find a closer hotel to Parque Central. That being said, here are a few cautionary notes. There are three rooms with queen beds: rooms 4, 5, 6. We stayed in room 5, a very small room with no outside window and no lamps for bedside reading. If $80 is your limit for a double room for two people and climbing over each other to get into bed would annoy you, I urge you to go elsewhere or otherwise spend $20 more and book one of the very spacious $100 rooms with two queen beds. Others have noted a musty smell. We found this to be true for our room, and the smell did not disappear even after the staff brought in a fan and dehumidifier. The smell was sufficiently annoying and the room much too cramped, so we left after two days and found another hotel. To be fair, the $100 rooms are very nicely appointed and may not have a musty odor.

One other annoying feature: you are requested to throw your toilet paper into a nearby can. But must it be a small can with no cover provided? It's not that this is an eco lodge, it's just that their plumbing is old and the pipes clog easily if you add toilet paper. Other hotels in Antigua, those with modern plumbing, do not have this problem.

Fine small hotel. My girlfriend and I stayed for 8 nights after 7 nights in a noisy, nearby apartment and a different newer hotel (like D'Leyenda) on the outskirts of town. D'Leyenda was our best experience because the staff was eager to accommodate our every request for a restaurant suggestion, tour arrangements, different times for breakfast, or whatever. The hotel is a couple years old so rooms and bathrooms are clean and well designed. Rooms are not overly spacious but adequate. In our 8 days there, we were always happy to be there. CarmenMaria, owner/manager, was onsite virtually everyday and emphasized her and staffs' desire to be of assistance in any way possible to ensure a pleasant stay in Antigua. If you want to be in the center of things, this is a prime location. A popular bar is next door, yet the nights were quiet in the room. Not sure how that is accomplished but no sleep was lost due to being "in the center of things." And, I am 72 years old and sensitive to such matters. Find hotel and staff.

Room Tip: We were in room #2 with bedroom windows and bath window open to courtyard and fresh air

As so many others have stated, we were also very pleased with D'Leyenda. Small charming hotel in an excellent location. The staff was VERY friendly. The view from the roof towards the volcanos were spectacular, where we were served a terrific breakfast each day.

This is a lovely boutique style hotel located just a few steps away from the main square in Antigua. The service was friendly and faultless. The room was characterful and very comfortable and clean - perhaps a little dark as no natural light but this is the style of the hotel. We stayed here for 4 nights in all taking time away from Antigua to go on various day and overnight trips and leaving our main bags in the safety of the hotel until we got back. The staff were so accommodating, happily looking after our luggage and moving it back into our room ready for our return. The hotel was very safe, the front gate is kept locked at all times so people cannot just wander in off of the street.
There is a lovely roof terrace where breakfast is served. You can lay in the sun or indulge with a dip in the rooftop jaccuzzi.
Breakfast was included and was the perfect start to the day. A large plate of very fresh fruit, tea, coffee and fresh bread with jams and biscuits.
The only slight downside to our stay was that it could sometimes be a bit noisy late at night and early in the morning and sleep was sometimes disturbed. However in all this is a really lovely place to stay with first class service and we would stay here again should we return in the future.

We stayed in La Llorona room which was approximately 16' x 16' with 2 small chairs and a small table between them. We had two very comfortable queen beds and pillows, a flat panel t.v., a fireplace, a small night stand between the beds with lamp, an overhead chandelier, one luggage rack, tile floor. There was a small alcove with the closet that had two shelves, a small hanging area, one drawer and a safe. No additional amenities were provided other than carmel candies that were very good! The room generally had poor lighting for reading.

Bathrom was about about 9'x6' with one sink, fair lighting, no magnifying mirror, moderate llighting, a hair dryer, soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower. The pullman was about 42" with moderate counter space, shelves were provided under the sink cabinet,

The staff could not do enough for you.....securing guides, drivers and making dinner reservations. All were very good.

Breakfast was adequate and the same each day......a biscuit (slightly sweet), bread, jam, fruit plate (pineapple, melon, papaya, strawberry), etc. Coffee was generally not hot nor particularly good. Breakfast could be improved..

The hotel hopefully will provide kleenix in the future and a magnifying mirror for the old folks that frequent their facility.

Service was A+ as was the location and cleanliness.

Rate $100 per night was a good value.

Restaurants we visited included Hector's (B+), Sabe Rico (B-), Epicure (B-), Tartine's (B-).

The town is charming and is well worth a three night visit......if you hire a guide, your day will be well arranged. We took the walking tour ($20.00 for two), a four plus hour tour to local villages, a macedemian nut farm, local craft shops, jade shops, a chocolate shop, etc., cost $60 per couple and group tour to a coffee plantation.....$36 for two. All were good especially the coffee tour that was very informative.

I think you will love the charm of this city and the intimate atmosphere (just 6 rooms) provided by the hotel.

Room Tip: La Llorna was quiet, had two queen beds and well appointed.

Very clean and quaint, great location. Very fluffy & warm blankets! Felt that it was very safe, they always have the front gate locked so it's good to know people can't just come into the hotel. I just wish there was more surface area to put our belonging because there was no desk & chair in the room.
