Try to sit in the open courtyard and enjoy a true Locals treat! The food is really fresh/always good and bountiful. You will be given a menu and then asked to complete your order on a piece of paper that has the menu written on it.

In a city noted for its history and traditions, Restauante Doña Luisa Xicotencatl is a local and Guatemalan tradition with an international tourist following. It's located in a painstakingly restored 1650 home by two former Peace Corp workers who served several years in Guatemala in the mid 1960s. The restaurant also features a celebrated bakery -- locals and tourists alike are avid fans of its fresh baked goods ranging from whole wheat loaves, delicious desserts and signature banana bread. Many more patrons visit for a leisurely breakfast, lunch or dinner from a varied menu.
The entry way is like a community communications center: a cluttered bulletin board has ever changing posts of rentals, announcements, tours, classes, etc. My wife and I first visited the restaurant in 1990 and it continues to be celebrated as a casual meeting place where people can get together, leisurely read, chat or linger over a meal. Dennis and Luisa Wheeler bought the relocated restaurant site, a two-story, earthquake-wrecked colonial home, in 1987 and out of the ruins salvaged original building stones and materials including twisted iron railings which were hammered back into shape on the reconstructed balconies.
(The restaurant, 4a Calle Oriente 12, is named after Doña Luisa Xicotencatl, the indian noblewoman and wife of conquistador Pedro Alvarez.)

My husband and I had lunch at Dona Luisa Xicoteneatl. They have a nice garden that feels very cool even at noon time. We had a couple of nice, huge salads. Since they bake their own bread, I thought the salads will come with some bread, but they didn't it. We asked for bread and we just got 2 slices of some nice white bread. Nothing special!
It is a nice place to take a break from all the walking around the city.
