We loved staying at this place - the setting is beautiful with old church walls in the garden, a nice little swimming pool, romantic setting, beautiful sunsets from the roof terrace and very caring staff and management.

It is a boutique hotel with lots of charm and the setting is amazing. We loved the breakfasts at the pool and the staff are really very caring and friendly. The rooms are very spacious with excellent amenities including a fireplace.

It is located on the edge of town, very quiet, and most locations can easily be reached on foot. In the evenings Ricardo, the manager, provided us many times with free transport to the dining places in town and he was an excellent source for dinner suggestions.

We left our Antigua hotel booking to the last minute and were not able to do much research before selecting a place to stay. Photos on the Hotel Cirilo web site looked nice, and it was only a little more than we initially planned to spend. We liked the idea of a hotel built on a ruins site, so we decided to give it a try despite concerns about the less-than-central location.

Little did we know what a treat we'd find! Only 7 months old, the Cirilo is a beautiful boutique hotel with exquisite attention to detail. Each room has its own working fireplace which is cleaned and restocked every morning. Ricardo, the manager, goes above and beyond to make sure you have a pleasant stay. The food is excellent; we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner -- the soup and steak were both terrific, and we found prices to be reasonable. And the pool and garden area are simply lovely. After a day of wandering the hectic streets of Antigua, it was very refreshing to return to our little oasis!

While the hotel is a 5-minute walk to town, this was perfectly fine for our tourist purposes. Cab and/or tuk-tuk fares are very low (max US$5) for getting back after dark. The hotel has good security; the grounds are walled, there is a night watchman, and everyone including guests must be buzzed in via the front gate.

In the interest of full disclosure, I did find the bed too hard for my taste, but the rest of the experience was so great that I hardly cared.

I will reminisce fondly about our time at the Hotel Cirilo and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exquisite boutique hotel experience in Antigua Guatemala.

We found Cirilo on Trip Advisor, and discovered that it was even better than some of the reviews suggest. The building and grounds are beautiful - the new hotel blending seamlessly with the historic ruins. The pool is quite small, but lovely - a brief dip is the perfect end to a day spent hiking a volcano! Our room made us feel as if we were staying in a castle, with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace that we were invited to use. The room was spotless (and cleaned perfectly after our adventures in hiking had us trekking mud inside).

The only downside is that it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the center of town, where all the shops and restaurants are. But if you don't want to walk, taxi's and tuk-tuk's are super cheap. Since things were a bit slow when we were there (rainy season), Ricardo the owner of Cirilo, even drove us in and out of town a few times himself!

Ricardo and his staff made us feel as if we were staying with friends. They got up early to prepare us breakfast to go when we needed to catch an early morning tour-bus, and cheerfully tried to follow our bungled spanish.

There were a number of cute hotels in Antigua, but after staying at Cirilo once, we have been spoiled. I'd never stay anywhere else.

Gorgeous new rustic, but modern hotel built on top of old ruines. This is one of those places you want to keep as your own secret. All I could say when I entered was, "WOW!" Service and staff is top notch, rooms are excellent, very comfortable and super clean. Beauty of hotel is unmatched and location is perfect.
I will stay here again and again and again. I like it so much I plan to do my wedding here. You will love this one!

I loved staying at Hotel Cirilo. I like boutique hotels with charm. I found it in this hotel. Wonderful caring staff. Interesting setting, in the ruins of an old church. Striking architecture. Stunning rooms. Romantic evening with wonderful lighting. Sumptious breakfast in the morning. Located on the edge of town so it is a little quiter.
