“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

I had a great time learning some tasty new recipes and cooking the food myself. It was a long class but it flew by. I was by myself and had direct one-on-one attention. My Spanish is a bit rusty, but the instructor spoke slowly and I was able to take the class all in Spanish. He will translate to English, but I wanted the Spanish experience.

“Great Antigua Experience”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

A lovely afternoon with the El Frijol cooking staff. The food was excellent and fun to make and both the cook and translator made us feel very welcome. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Antigua for a visit.

“A private class just for us”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We had a lovely afternoon at El Frijol.

The cook doesn't speak English but the owner was with us all afternoon to translate and ply us with alcohol. He was also very good at helping us pick between our favourite mexican dishes and those that we might be able to source ingredients for back home.

The food was delicious and the lesson was a hoot!

NOTE: if you've got the loney planet guide book the address has changed!

“Home Cooking in Antigua”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

My family of four signed up for an afternoon cooking class held in the back room of Cafe Flor. We were joined by a delightful couple from Canada and proceeded to spend four hours preparing and consuming a delectable meal. We were instructed by a lovely Guatemalan woman whose instructions were translated by Luis, the owner of the cooking school and cafe. We prepared chicken pepian, rice, tortillas, fried chayote with cheese, frijoles, and plantains stuffed with sweet beans and chocolate. By the time we sat down to eat, we had conversed about numerous topics in addition to cooking. We truly felt like guests in Luis' dining room rather than paying customers. A wonderful way to spend a pleasant afternoon in Antigua.

“Guatemalan cuisine”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We found this in the Lonely Planet but it has moved and is now in a Thai restaurant near the main square. It was a great way to spend a morning. The chef and owner were both very helpful and suggest alternative vegetables to use at home (if you can't get the Guatemalan ones). We had a feast! The rice patties were delicious. We highly recommend it.
