“great food and chef”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

the food was very good and creative. Chef Titi Brudker came out to chat and she made us something not on the menu > shrimp curry > that was fabulous.

“Great meal! Best food in Antigua”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

My wife is fully vegeterian so we ordered the Aubergine Napoleon, the Artichoke gratinee and the gnocci with a sauce gorgonzola. It was all exquiste! Hands down best food we had in Antigua.

Ask for the lamb and the desert sampler. Call the chef, she is very friendly and capable.

“It's good enough for Mel Gibson”
Reviewed November 19, 2011

The el Convento is a high end boutique hotel with 26 suites "flow(ing) from a central courtyard graced buy a hundred year old Tempixque tree." Mel Gibson stayed there on a recent visit to Antigua. Prices reflect the tony nature of the establishment. The restaurant is located in a rustic space with stones and brick arches. Our party of 4 were the only table that evening. Perhaps the waitstaff must be discreet when caring for the rich and famous, but the service to we commoners was nonexistent. We were never offered water and had to ask for a wine list. The servers pretty much never came around unless they were summoned by eye contact.
The food itself was just OK. I had a coffee scented mushroom soup which was fine, but not outstanding. My seafood risotto was well prepared but had little flavor, save for the occasional extra-fishy tasting chunk of seafood. Two members of my party ordered shrimp which was overcooked. The highlights of the meal were an appetizer with tuna and avocado and the ice creams we ordered for dessert.
