Description: Celebrating their 17th season, Wendy and Peter Jannelle are proud of what they have created at Fifty-Six Union. The most recent addition is the outside space. Completely protected, with a full bar, the atmosphere is playful and fun. Dinner is served nightly (year-round) at 5:30 PM, offering Peter's House Specialties that include the best Curried Mussels in the World! Peter is a '78 graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. His career started by working on The Holland America Lines. Afterward he came to Nantucket and became the chef de cuisine at the now defunct India House Restaurant. This is where he met Wendy. Wendy and Peter have been on the Island since the early 80's, and have worked in some of the best kitchens and dining rooms on Nantucket. Their two sons, Andrew and Blair, have both taken turns working in the Family Business. Andrew's interest has been in the kitchen, while Blair can currently be seen behind the bar, or serving on the floor.

The restaurant is about 10-15 minutes walk out of the center of town, and the walk is a nice way to end an evening at 56 Union. We eight had a lovely meal there last week, from start to finish. Great coffee martinis! Loved the mussel appetizer (plenty for an entree with a starter) Quietly elegant place.

Food was reasonably good, and berry shortcake was delicious. A little pricey, but not surprisingly so for Nantucket.

It's always good to return to scene of good memories and find that it's still good. The staff, the food, were as good as I remembered. The fluke is very good, a mild fish with a nutty covering and the tuna was to die for. The outdoor area is very nice...if the weather is nice, request that area. They have a tent up for special parties.

Nantucket has lots of great restaurants but most are in town. On a busy weekend 56 union is a better choice. Same great food but out of town and parking.

The food and desert were very good I have no complaints there. The prices seem average for Nantucket island. The service was very good. The building is on the edge of town parking wasn't too bad. Inside is nice its not a large restaurant and the noise can be somewhat loud. Especially when you have a group that doesn't have restaurant manners.

The menu had only 6 entrees and they were out of one. There were about a dozen appetizers.

Overall you won't be disappointed I gave this place 4 stars only for the limited entrees which some people may like versus having too many selections like a diner.
