Went here for a cocktail and beach picnic late afternoon highlighted by not only a beautiful sunset but catching a nice sized striped bass off the shore.

This is a hidden gem on Nantucket. Madaquechan is an outwash plain on the south of Nantucket just east of the airport. It has acres and acres of moors, a nice secluded beach, and can be a good place to go surfcasting. It is one of the dozens of the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and is well maintained. There are two parking lots, so parking is not an issue. It is remote, but accessible.

Just east of the Nantucket is Madequecham Valley, 2,000 acres of land owned by the Conservation Foundation. This area provides expansive views of the south part of Nantucket and has trails that lead right to the ocean. If you hit it just right, you may see one of the best sunsets around from the cliffs that overlook the ocean.

I took a surf lesson out in Madaquecham and it was excellent. The guys from ack surf took great care of my group. We had fun and all caught a wave. Give them a try at Madaquecham Beach.
