Great drive on the sand and you don't get to do that very often. If you can go on the Nature Conservancy Tour, you get to climb to the top the lighthouse. Lot's of seals at the point and you can get so close enough to enjoy their 'smell'.

“Great destination for an afternoon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2012

Go there for the afternoon, pack a lunch and bring the camera! Terrific lighthouse setting, must use a 4WD of some sort, pay for a day pass at the station near there, lower the air in your cars tires and then proceed slowly. One side is calm waters, the other is wavy with lots of fisherman, fishing for stripers. A great fighting fish, not great for eating.
No roads after you hit the coasts, mostly 4wding along the dunes. FUN FUN FUN! GO

“Awesome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2012

If your on the island you MUST rent a Jeep and trek out here. Remember to lower your tire pressure to 12 PSI before heading on the sand. You can pump the tires back up near the Wauwinet. If you brought an off island vehicle they will make you buy a season over sand permit which is pricey. It is cheaper to rent a Jeep for the day and buy a weekend permit.

“Unique beach trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2012

You rent a jeep and head out for Great Point. When you arrive at the beach, you will need to lower the air pressure in the tires so that your can drive on the sand. You go over sand dunes and formations for a great ride. Fishing is also good in this area with blues being the most fun. CAUTION: You need to keep your eye on the tide or you could find yourself trapped. There is some danger her, but if you use reasonable caution, you will be OK. There are usually some guides around to keep a watch on things.

Don't expect beach rentals, food, etc. This is authentic Nantucket, and they don't want to spoil it. You will have a great day.
