Oh, wow, what can I say! This lighthouse is probably the first landmark you see if you take the ferry to Nantucket. It is not very high, nor is it on a high bluff or cliff, but it is really a beautiful lighthouse. What's more, it is also a wonderful place to see sunset -- we were told that the beach at the end of the Madaket bus route (near Smith Point) is the best place to see sunset, which it may be, but given the time and location -- at the time of our visit (early July, 2016), sunset was at 8:20 or so, and the last ferry out of Nantucket was at 9:20, it would be a rush to get back from Madaket (and there would be a real risk of missing the ferry) -- Brant Point is a much more convenient location for watching the sunset.
But don't think you are short-changed! The sunset at Brant Point rivals anywhere (see photos for proof). At the beach near the lighthouse, the sun sets on the other side over Jetties Beach, and Brant Point Lighthouse itself would be in lovely light. Sometimes the best light in the sky happens after the sunset, and here you can linger for a while (it is only about 15 minutes walk back to the ferry dock). This was exactly what we did, and after a full day of activity on Nantucket, this was a fitting highlight and conclusion of this trip.
