“Wonderful place to stay!”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Anchor Inn is a very comfortable place to stay. Ann and Dennis were very helpful and personable and made our stay easy. Ann gave us a quick tour at check-in and recommended some things to do during our stay. We were there during the Opera Cup race and watched the rainbow fleet, at her suggestion. The room had everything we needed for a long weekend. The location is great--quick walk to town, but on a peaceful street. Comfortable amenities and we enjoyed the yummy continental breakfast on the patio every morning. A very relaxed stay!

If you are looking for old fashioned charm and service, the Anchor Inn is place for you. Beautiful House, well maintained, nice owners, perfect location. Short walk to town and to beaches, but far enough out of town to be quiet.

I have stayed at the Anchor Inn before and every time find it better. This time my daughter and I were greeted by both the owner, who gave us a rundown of where everything was, including refrigerator, insulated bags for use if you had a picnic lunch and beach towels, and by Dennis, who I believe is the manager this year. I was more than a bit surprised when he took my bag up to our room. No one has ever done that in all of the times I have stayed in guest houses on Nantucket. He welcomed us each morning to a continental breakfast, which includes homemade muffins, and gave us suggestions for things to do on rainy Nantucket days. The Horatio room was more than adequate for the two of us. The bathroom was fine for us; however, if you are a large person, you might find it tight. There is a small shower stall and toilet in a room just barely big enough for both. The sink is outside the bathroom next to the dresser, which I liked. One of us could do hair and makeup while the other showered. The air conditioners in all of the guest houses in which we have stayed never seem to work as well as we would like them to, but I believe that is one of the issues with older wiring. These little quirks are what give the inns their charm and highlights the quaintness of Nantucket. I highly recommend the Anchor Inn.

My wife and I just stayed at the Inn over the 4th. We had a fantastic time. Dennis and the other people at the Inn were very friendly and made us feel right at home. The location is an easy walk to town or the beaches. We will be back.

I was in town on business, but my wife travelled with me so we also had a bit of vacation. The Anchor Inn was a lovely place to stay, Dennis was extremely hospitable and helpful ... and the location was walking distance from the center of town. We were pleased with the accommodations. Definitely recommended!

My husband and I were to be married in a private ceremony on Nantucket, and our small group stayed at the Anchor Inn; we couldn't be happier with our choice of accommodations. Dennis was friendly, gracious and thoroughly accommodating... especially when the skies decided to open up and our venue of choice was rained out. We moved our very small ceremony to the main room at the Anchor Inn, and what resulted was an intimate, memorable occasion in a beautiful, historical Nantucket setting. Truly one to remember!

We are already looking forward to our one year anniversary, and plan to return to the Anchor Inn to celebrate. Thanks very much, Dennis - you made our special weekend all the more enjoyable!

My husband and I came to Nantucket to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and we were not disappointed in the Anchor Inn or in Nantucket. Nantucket can be quite expensive, but staying there does not need to be. Though simple (in the most charming sense of the word), staying at the inn feels as though one is staying at a real Nantucket home a hundred years or more ago (I believe it was owned by a whaling captain in the late 1700s or early 1800s). It is furnished with classic furniture that suits the historic town. Our bathroom and shower were a bit small, but light and bright. The bed was comfortable, room had everything we needed, breakfasts were very light but tasty, sitting room and breakfast room and side patio are just charming as can be. We didn't see much of the proprietors of the property, but checking in was easy as was checking out. They have a fridge you can store things in, beach towels and small coolers to borrow, and cold water bottles in the fridge to take when you please.

Everything in the main town is within easy walking distance. The Inn is located a couple of blocks up a slight hill from the ferry, past the wonderful whaling museum, and two doors down from The First Congregational Church (the white steeple one sees when coming into town on the ferry-- DON'T miss the best view in town from the top!). We enjoyed renting bikes, taking a walking tour of the town from the Whaling Museum (which is a must-see), riding our bikes by the windmill, to Cisco's Brewery (no food there), and out to the beaches on the far side of the island. We even got to see a whale! We also enjoyed eating at a few times at the Brotherhood of Thieves just down the street between the Inn and the ferry. Slip 14 is an excellent restaurant as well!

As some Cape Cod locals told us as we were coming over on the ferry, Nantucket is the real Cape Cod. And we happily endorse the Anchor Inn at which to stay while there.
