To put it bluntly, Nantucket, in addition to its great whaling history and beauty has become a community of tremendous wealth. This is self-evident simply by walking around and seeing the many estates and massive private yachts that dock at Nantucket harbor. To visit the island can be very expensive. As the title of this review would suggest, where we go on vacation, what we spend and the return we get on that expense requires some careful consideration.

There are several hotels on Nantucket to choose from. One of the reasons we decided on the White Elephant is because the hotel manager takes the time to respond to her guests Trip Advisor Reviews. Based on our travel experience this is can a very positive indication.

First, a very important tip for people who take the high speed ferry from Hyannis! When you check your luggage make sure you specify that you are going to Nantucket. The Martha’s Vineyard ferry loads up right next to the Nantucket ferry so your bags could end up on the wrong Island. A woman who lives on Nantucket and had struck up a conversation with us warned us about that. By the time we went to check they had already loaded our luggage so we spent the hour long voyage feeling very tense about that and were greatly relieved when we reached Nantucket to find our bags had arrived with us.

As you may have read on the other reviews, if the Hotel is aware of your arrival time they will pick you up, drive you to the hotel and help you with your luggage. As soon as we pulled into the hotel driveway there were several people on staff who warmly greeted us and escorted us into the lobby. We were surprised and delighted when the front desk informed us that they had upgraded our room to a Guest Suite and then introduced us to the gentleman that would assist us to our room. It turned out our room was on the second floor and provided us with a spectacular view of Nantucket harbor. Once we were settled in our suite it started to sink in that this was going to be a special experience.

The one concern we had was some of the less than favorable reviews on The Brant Point Grill posted back in 2012 so we had planned to go just once and then take the rest of our meals in town. As it was 2 pm by the time we were settled in our room and we were hungry we decided to check it out and have lunch. The restaurant was beautiful with a tremendous ocean view. Our lunch turned out to be excellent. The New England Clam Chowder and The Unbelievable Benedict Burger was great. Another dish we would recommend for dinner would be the 16oz USDA Prime Aged Rib Eye. Also, the bar makes one of the best Manhattan's I have ever had. After such a positive experience we ended up having most of our meals and drinks at the hotel. We would like to thank Crystal who gave us such a warm welcome to the Brant Point Grill and the following day when she saw us in passing and stopped to see if everything was going well during our stay. Also Trishana, Joseph and Deria as well as rest of the staff for making us feel so welcome.

The best way we can describe The White Elephant Hotel is understated elegance at its best. The focus of all who work there is the hotel guests and their well-being with a very high level of personal attention that is skilled and genuine.

Yes it is expensive but in our opinion well worth it.

Stayed 4 nights in a White Elephant Cottage with close proximity to town. Cottage was very well decorated, extremely clean with and incredible king size bed. The staff there work extremely hard to make sure your visit goes beyond expectations. I highly recommend and cant wait to get back.

Dear Paul L;

Thank you for your review! I am glad that the cottage worked so well for you during the busy Figawi Weekend! Our one, two and three bedroom cottages are a fun alternative to the main hotel. The one and three bedroom cottages are original structures, and we have decorated them in a light and bright cottage style while our two bedroom cottages are much more recent structures and they mirror the decor and style of the main hotel.

All three options are great for a little solitude for couples or for those with families, they offer a wonderfully private alternative to a hotel room.

Have a great summer and we hope to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

If you are seeking absolute relaxation the The White Elephant sits on the harbor near the middle if town.
There is an intimate and friendly atmosphere where people are determined to make you comfortable.
The rooms are clean and inviting. There is a fireplace for the cool evenings and a balcony on the harbor to enjoy the Magic of Nantucket which is remarkable in itself.

Dear Phil H;

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others! I am happy to hear that you were made to feel at home and comfortable. As you mentioned, we are just a few blocks from the downtown area (for those who know Nantucket, you know that 'downtown' is a big word for our pretty part of the world), and we do offer complimentary drop offs with our courtesy vehicles for those guests who prefer not to walk.

There is nothing like looking out on the ever changing harbor. It is magical. Thank you.

While Memorial Day Weekend can prove to be a bit hectic on Nantucket due to the now famous Figawi Sailing Race, The White Elephant provides an oasis of peace and tranqulity and unmatched service. So, you can observe the revelry and excitement, but when tired of it all, escape back to The Brandt Point Grille at the hotel and have a lovely glass of wine while gazing out at the water.

Dear oldflame6;

Thank you for coming to stay with us over Memorial Day Weekend. Yes, you are right, Figawi can be a little hectic, but the people and sailboat watching is so fun! We are glad you enjoyed the peaceful environment we have here despite our close proximity to town. We are very lucky!

Dear denbro;

Thank you for your posting. I am so glad you all had such a nice time. The Two-Bedroom Cottages are wonderful. We have four of them all together and we just renovated all the bathrooms, kitchenettes and refurnished them in the past two winters, so they are in tip-top shape.

My stay with the White Elephant was an experience in comfort and superb relaxation. The friendly and present staff applied consistent attention to assure that all of my needs were met, from extending initial warm greetings upon arrival, to providing detailed guidance as I navigated my stay on Nantucket, to providing pleasant room surprises that I discovered upon my return. I had consistent feelings of security, warmth and comfort throughout my stay. The rooms and grounds are impeccable, the amenities plentiful. The extra effort that the White Elephant management and staff made to ensure that my stay was as enjoyable, personal, and pleasant as possible made all of the difference in my stay on Nantucket. Highly recommended for luxury, comfort, quiet, convenience, and wonderful harbor views!

Room Tip: A room with harbor view is fantastic for the full Nantucket experience

Dear Jodi O;

Thank you so very much for your review. We love hearing that you felt taken care of and relaxed throughout your stay. We try to balance being available and throughtful without coming across as overbearing, and it sounds like the staff did a wonderful job. I do have to say that the team really is amazing this year in particular.

I went to the White Elephant with my husband to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. We were expecting a nice, relaxing, romantic get-away and we were NOT disappointed! We were greeted by a friendly driver at the dock , transfered to the beautiful hotel. Our room was absolutely perfect, with a nice view of the harbor, nice balcony, beautiful furnishings and a welcoming anniversary cake! Our fireplace was not working properly and we had a bit of trouble with the balcony door- but the staff fixed both small problems very quickly. The weather was not at all cooperative during our Nantucket stay but that was not much of a problem because the staff was always ready to drive us to our destination, or offer us umbrellas for the short misty walk into town. It is an expensive destination (the hotel and everything on the island!) but it was worth it and we hope to be able to go back again soon!

Room Tip: The 2nd floor rooms are nice and quiet. Corner rooms have the most windows and the best views. I r...
