“AWFUL SERVICE, ABSOLUTLY WILL NEVER STAY THERE”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

The General Manager "Bob" of the Ships Inn has treated us completely unprofessional. We booked and paid in full over a month ago. They have a VERY strict cancellation policy, that states they will refund you only if they rebook the room. We were scheduled to be there while Hurricane Irene passes through Boston. We called to reschedule any other date before the weekend of predicted Irene, but they didn't have any space. They said unless the room was re-booked we couldn't have our money back, even under these circumstances," because you always run the risk of rain when you travel." (Seriously) Who is going to book that room, let alone be on the island during a hurricane? It is a shame that Bob & the owners of the Ships Inn have yet to realize that there is something called Natural Disaster/Acts of God, that should change your policy. They have removed the human factor from the way they do business. It is a shame that they choose to do business in this way. We chose to support local small business while staying in Massachusetts, unfortunately those small businesses are not supporting us. These are extraordinary and very dangerous circumstances. This is not "a little rain" as Bob the manager put it. I'm am so disappointed in the Ships Inn. Shame on you Bob !

My only regret in staying at the Ships Inn was that we did not stay for longer! Beautiful, airy, comfortable room. Knowledgeable and friendly inn keepers. Great location, walking distance to all the best shopping. Delicious breakfast in their wonderful restaurant.

Mary Lou and Bob made our stay at the Ship's Inn so relaxing.

The breakfasts were so much more than we had expected at a B&B. If we were a little late and the "good stuff" was already eaten/ finished, we especially appreciated the thoughtfulness receiving a heated up hashbrown casserole. Also, knowing what we liked, Mary Lou would kindly inform us of the addition of the sausage/egg casserole and bring out Special K cereal that had run out up front.

Maps, beach chairs, and towels were at our disposal. The afternoon tea hit the spot when we happened to return to the inn. Plenty of towels and toiletries were available. The staff seem to play double duty behind the scenes. Katerina did a wonderful job of maintaining a clean room for us and seeking out Earl Grey tea at breakfast.

If you have difficulty with stairs, this would be the only disadvantage for staying at the Ship's Inn. There are stairs to the main entrance, and if you are not staying at the room on the main floor, then there are narrow, steep stairs to the upper two floors. Bob efficiently handled delivering our bags to the rooms; however, even without luggage, one needs to be mindful of the stairs.

This is a historic building. The claw foot tub with showerhead and two faucet sink may be slightly inconvenient for some although we found everything to be quite charming.

The Ship's Inn is just as quaint as Nantucket itself. We hope to visit again soon.

The Ships Inn is a classic and historic Nantucket Inn. My friend and I each had our own single rooms and we shared the bathroom between the two rooms. This was a perfect scenario to have your own space and be able to go to bed whenever you want. The room was perfect for one person with cable TV, refrigerator, free Wi-Fi and a sink. It was a long room and not too small at all. The bed was very soft and comfortable. There was lots of white making it feel very Nantucket beach-like. The breakfast was wonderful with all kinds of delicious breakfast pies and cakes as well as cereal, breads, fruit, yogurt and fresh squeezed OJ. The restaurant for dinner was exceptional. Our server was one of the most polished servers I had ever seen and the dinner was wonderful. Classic American cuisine in a romantic and historic setting. Also, the location is steps from downtown with quiet and lovely little homes and streets close by. Finally, the living room is lovely after a day at the beach to drink fresh lemonade and eat cookies. I will be back to the Ships Inn for sure!

My husband and I just returned from our weekend stay at The ship's Inn on Nantucket. This was our first trip to Nantucket, since we usually spend time on Block Island and Martha's Vineyard. WOW!! Still can't believe what we have been missing out on all these years! The island is incredibly beautiful, the people are all extremely friendly, and the food is just amazingly delicious. We were there celebrating our 18th Wedding Anniversary and couldn't have picked a more perfect weekend weather wise. The staff at The Ship's Inn are so warm and accomodating. The breakfasts in the morning are just so yummy. Fresh fruit, all kinds of juices, freshly baked scones, muffins, cakes and of course their many delicious vegetable casseroles and bread pudding/ french toast-like desserts are all over-the -top!! The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. The pillows were on the "hard" side, and could definitely be a bit more fluffy. The shower also seemed to have a mind of it's own, and would lose water pressure a few times and when the pressure would return, the water was freezing cold. We regretably did not have dinner at the restaurant, although it was packed both Friday and Saturday night. The menu did look inventive and really good. We will definitely not miss the restaurant next time we stay at The Ship's Inn!!

The Ships Inn has a great restaurant in the basement which is cosy and romantic serving excellent food
Rooms are nice and cosy. All in different colors. They are spacious. The service is extremely friendly. A good breakfast with homemmade but a little greasy items is served in the morning. The Ships Inn is perfectly located few blocks away from the downtown area. It is fully furnished in Nantucket style.
The cosy lobby area can be a place for a break where coffee and cake is served in the afternoon.

The Innkeeper was quite relaxed about formalities such as check in/out time, the staff was friendly, the rooms were pretty, although our room's shower/bathtub arrangement was a little "quaint" (a freestanding bathtub with a shower curtain). The restaurant is well-regarded, although we didn't eat there, and the breakfast was a variety of home baked quiche-y or cake-like things or granola and cereal. Yummy. All in all, a very nice place.
