My wife and I just spent two glorious nights at this wonderful inn. The bedroom and private bath were first class, as was Heather, the owner and hostess. Breakfast included fresh fruit and homemade baked cakes...banana, carrot and cranberry during our stay. There was always something to nibble on at the front desk main. Heather admitted that she liked to bake and it showed. The Friday evening we were there she had laid out a spectacular wine and cheese spread that included 6-8 different wines and a half dozen cheeses.

The location is very convenient to several beaches and all that downtown Nantucket has to offer. We could not have had a more enjoyable stay.

This place is acceptable, but not great. Our room was very clean, and the bed was comfy (new mattress?). The Innkeeper was quite helpful and personable, and the location was perfect--short walk to downtown, while still on a quiet street. The breakfast offerings were fresh, but not creative. The breakfast area was tiny and cramped, not at all comfortable.

Our air conditioner worked fine, but when we wanted to turn it off, and just sleep with the windows open, we found that the screens didn't fit properly. Overall, I found the decor a little "cold", not cozy like I've experienced at other B&B's. For location and cleanliness, you couldn't do better. For charm? Keep looking.

This guest stayed in the same room as the previous reviewer, demonstrating that the comfort of a bed is a very personal matter! We are pleased that this guest found the bed so comfortable and appreciated the cleanliness of our inn, which we consider of the utmost importance. Décor is also a matter of personal taste. The room this guest occupied has a queen canopy bed, an oriental rug in warm colors, two armchairs in a sitting area and a working fireplace. The room overlooks our pleasant garden. Many guests find this room quite charming. We recognize that it's helpful to see photos before making a decision about where to stay, so our website provides a photo tour of the inn so that prospective guests can view each room in the inn as well as our outside grounds.

The Carlisle House is conveniently located close to town, in a nice quiet location just a few minutes walk from everything. We stayed in a room on the second floor that turned out to be fairly small and cramped - and while we normally might not have minded so much, the weather was not great during our stay and the room was not at all conducive to relaxing in. There is a parlor area downstairs but it is not air conditioned and it was much too hot and humid to hang out there. Aside from this, the one truly unredeemable aspect of the place was the bed - not sure if it was a cheap mattress or just old, but it was so uncomfortable I could hardly sleep and my back was killing me afterward. Overall the Carlisle is an ok place to bunk for the night if you're looking for nothing more than a bed to sleep in (albeit a very uncomfortable one). But in retrospect we would opt to pay more and stay in a roomier and more comfortable B&B or hotel, with more amenities.

We realize that what one person might find comfortable in a bed, another might not. This particular room is very popular, in fact we have repeat guests who always request it! While not the largest of our rooms, it is 15 by 15 feet, with enough room for a queen canopy bed and two wing chairs. Unfortunately we were experiencing an extremely hot and humid weather pattern during this guest's stay with us and it was difficult to keep the parlor cool with front and side doors being opened and closed constantly during the day. Although this guest did not offer any of this feedback when asked how she enjoyed her stay, we have contacted her directly to hear her comments because we value each guest's feedback and wish to ensure our future guests a superb experience with us.

We have come to this great inn for a few years. Wonderful location and charm. Heather is a pleasure to deal with. Love the availability of beach towels and the breakfast. We are able to leave our luggage on departure day so we can extend our visit to the Island. Inn is always clean and hospitable. The side yard is a pleasure to relax in as well. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for air conditioning and some rooms do not have a private bath

I just recently spent three days/two nights here - my wife and I actually booked a reservation at another hotel on the island that was suppose to open in early June but did not because it had not obtained its certificate of occupancy yet. We were fortunately re-located to the Carlisle House Inn.

We were very pleased with this inn. It is centrally located to everything in downtown Nantucket and the inn maintains the great New England classical style that is so pervasive throughout the island. We stayed in the Madeket Suite which was spacious, clean and, most importantly, comfortable. The very slight "con" to the room was that the bathroom is outside the suite and has to be accessed through the general hallway. Any concerns I had about the situation were assuaged by the fact that the bathroom is private and can only be opened by that suite's key. The inn also has a charming parlor adjacent to the check-in lobby as well as a very serene outside sitting area.

We found the staff to be very personable and they provided us with terrific suggestions for maxmizing our enjoyment of the island during our stay. We were very happy to have been re-located to this inn and we will certainly look in to staying here again when we return to Nantucket.

There were three of us (our 16 year-old daughter joined my wife and me) and we had the 'Sconset Suite on the second floor. It was great to have our daughter stay in her own room so we could all sleep comfortably.

The timing of our trip was a little goofy - we had to check out by 11 am but our next destination did not allow checking in until 3 pm that same afternoon. However, the innkeeper allowed us to keep the parking pass until we left for the next destination. This allowed us to enjoy Nantucket Town for several additional hours and grab lunch.

From the moment we arrived til the moment we departed, everything was perfect. Heather was the perfect host. The continental breakfast was just right, peach breakfast bread and popovers were my favorite! We stayed in 2 of the suites and everything was clean, just perfect. Thank you Heather for making our stay such a good one. We will definately be back.
