“A model of efficiency”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We stepped off the ferry and made the easy one-block walk to Young's Bicycle Shop. We were greeted promptly, and while one staffer got our information another pulled out some bikes for us so that by the time we swiped our credit card they had two bikes ready to go. They gave us a short explanation of the bike's features and some suggested routes to try. This was only shoulder season, but I was impressed with how quickly and efficiently they got us out riding given that we walked in without a reservation. The bikes themselves were spotlessly clean and appeared (and felt) very well-maintained. I'm not sure what their entire inventory consists of, but we got a couple of nice Cannondales with Shimano twist-style shifters. Locks, helmets, and maps were all included in the rental. One of our bikes had a basket and both had a rack and bungee cord. We had no problems at all with the bikes during a long day of biking across Nantucket, and returning the bikes was just as fast and painless as checking them out had been. I have no hesitation in recommending Young's.

“Really good bike store and extremely helpful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2013 via mobile

We had a poor experience a couple of days before with a rubbish bike shop on the mainland. Youngs was the absolute opposite.

The Cannondale bikes were easy to ride, pretty new and really well maintained. The staff took time and we were surprised to find the seats already set up to perfection before we got the bikes. The staff gave great directions and good recommendations

“It is the customer service...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2013 via mobile

We went to Nantucket without a plan, other than we had heard renting bikes was a good way to see the island. My spouse is not huge into riding, so I was a little nervous on the outcome. Well, Young's gives you everything you need, including well maintained bicycles, great recommendations based on your riding experience and a useful map. Above all, they take the time to talk to you and provide details on where to go and eat. If coming to the island, I would recommend a stop at Young's.

“So worth it to rent a jeep!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

We have stayed in Nantucket without a car before and enjoyed ourselves but renting a jeep and being able to drive all over the island was really worth it. We came in early May before the prices for everything went up. We had perfect 70 degree weather and only a few other people. We weren't alone but we didn't feel crowded like the summer. Daffodills and tulips everywhere.

The bright red jeep was so much fun. We went on the crazy, bumpy roads all over the island finding nooks and crannies and 'nantucket' homes tucked every where. We took the adventuous "road" out to Great Point Lighthouse thru the deep, soft sand. Fun fun! Saw the seals sleeping on the beach down from the light house. Saw deer, bunnies, hawks as we drove around.

The men at the shop had our jeep right there at the shop. You walk off the boat less than one block and you're at the shop. They instructed us how to let the air out of the tires to drive on the sand and how to refill them when we were back on pavement. They gave us detailed maps. We feel the $117 we spent for the full 24 hours was well worth it!

“Great maps.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

Young's was recommend by our Inn who also uses their maps for directions. Very easy to find where Steamboat Warf becomes Broad St. We were going to take a guided tour with another shop, but couldn't find it even after asking at the CoC and didn't want to book ahead with rain very possible. This was much cheaper to just get bikes and do self-guided on the spur of the moment. I am good with maps so we had no trouble, but had to stop very often to check the many turns. Very happy we did, exploring on our own was fun. Staff was helpful. No hassle to return our bikes to the alley afterhours lockup. We rode around town and out on the bike trail and roads to the Founders Cemetery.
