Dont go to Nantucket without visiting Siasconset and the beach. It's beautiful and the town is a wonderful place to stroll around, have lunch and later dinner at the Summer House.

We biked out to the little village. Nice streets, tiny restaurant for lunch, good beach. My understanding is it's where the old Nantucketers went to get away from town. It's a good bike ride, too. We did the loop out there, both legs worth the ride.

Above the beach, if you can find it, north of the place where the bus drops you, there is a public right of way along the bluff heading north. The path goes through the back yards of the big houses with the ocean views. The southern entrance is marked as a public way. It is a nice walk, views of the beach, flowers, and ocean to the right, and the mansions to the left. On a Labor Day weekend afternoon, about 90% of the mansions seemed vacant; Were the owners out playing golf or sailing ??? There was only one gentleman on a back porch reading a book. If I had a mansion on the ocean here, I would certainly spend my weekends like the gentleman reading a book and enjoying the million dollar view. But the view is free to all, thanks to the public minded persons who preserved this public way. Thank you to the shuttle-van driver who told us about the walk.

On the east side of Nantucket, this was the perfect location to enjoy a magnificent sunrise. The parking lot was quite small, less than 10 spaces, but a short walk down from the post office and a little sandwich shop, along with public restrooms just a short walk up the street. Creative visitors made a long, long row of sand displays close to the grassy side of the beach comprised of shells, wood, seagull feathers, figures, probably anything and everything that washed up on the shoreline - a real treat!

Easy to get to and very nice. Not crowded at all during the off season and nice vistas. A short walk from the bus drop-off.
