“This place endures!”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

We remember when this was a hole in the wall with dusty light fixtures, but the food was always wonderful--the best sweet and sour soup, says my husband, and lovely garlicky lo mein. We go there monthly for dinner or for their luncheon specials, great value.

“A good, traditional Chinese restaurant”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

You won't find anything new or exciting on the menu but a good range of Chinese restaurant standards. We've been eating here for decades and the quality is consistent and good. Hot and Sour Soup, Peking Ravioli General Gau Chicken etc all much better than the average Chinese restaurant. Seafood Sizzling Platter is excellent. They have a full bar and we like to treat ourselves to the Scorpion Bowl every once in a while. this is not gourmet but good, reasonably priced food served with a smile. They have a couple of large tables so it's a great place to go with a group of friends or family.

Normal Chinese food sit down restaurant. Nothing bad, but nothing outstanding.

“Wide assortment of dishes; quality inconsistant”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

A large group of friends dined at at Shanghai Village recently. We were please by the selections available - something for everyone, from the vegan to the lowfat/low sodium vegetarian to the teen boys wanting something deep-fried and filling. Can't fault the menu, including a good choice of "fake meat" vegetarian options and your standard American Chinese lunch combos (chow mein, chicken fingers, etc.)

Positives: friendly attentive service in a pleasant room - we had the big round table in the front. As mentioned, many choices of food. Reasonable prices. Great Arlington Center location. Very realistic fake meat.

Some negatives: the tea was dreadful, overstewed and harsh. They had brown rice on the menu (a nice touch for the health conscious), but they were out of it. None of the food was knock-your-socks-off tasty. On the lowfat/low salt menu, the only vegetarian choice was all vegetables (no tofu choice) so no protein. And the ladies room smelled awful.

We used to eat here frequently many years ago, and I remember it as having much better food. But it's still a useful place to keep in mind and good for a crowd.

“Good Chinese Food in Arlington”
Reviewed December 25, 2008

We enjoy the food. Even a vegan member of the family can get "vegan General Gao chicken" and it's good -- you have to ask for it special. Other dishes are good enough, maybe not spectacular, but good, and they don't use MSG, which we much prefer. Pleasant enough inside, they deliver, try this place, you'll be okay. We actually don't know how their meat dishes are, however!
