Located on Vodno Mountain, overlooking the city of Skopje, the church stands as a memory to early Slavic conversion into Orthodox Christianity. The frescoes, well preserved, masterly restaured, depict bible themes, the Lamentation of Mary and many others as means of education for the converts to be. The Ottomans never converted the Church nor the Monastery into a mosque. I suppose they found the site too inaccessible. Enjoy an afternoon on fresh mountain air and monastic cuisine at the restaurant overlooking Skopje. Drink the best water from the mountain source, or even better, the monastery wine.
