Holiday Inn - Skopje

Holiday Inn is a safe choice if you don't mind feeling like you've seen it before. The location is excellent, next to the river (with the Opera Ballet across the water) with many nearby restaurants and a big (but not so great) shopping mall next door.

The room was comfortable, clean, and the Queen bed was great. Everything worked. But there was no safe in the room (I think many Holiday Inns don't have in-room safes).

The view was pretty spectacular (for Skopje) - I was in 418 which is a corner room with views over the river, the stone bridge, the fortress ramparts, the Mustafa Pasa mosque and, looking the other way, the giant Milennium Cross on Mt Vodno. The view from the upper floors should be even better (there are 9 floors).

There are plenty of restaurants and bars along the river, just steps from the hotel in the direction of the Stone Bridge. It feels very safe and quite "western".

If you are mainly looking for the BEST location, the Stone Bridge Hotel (also supposed to be a 5 star) is unbeatable because it's smack by the Stone Bridge and the main square, but that's only 5-10 minutes walk from the Holiday Inn (at the moment you have to walk through the shopping mall because there is construction quaiside).

There was some street noise, since I was quayside near the restaurants, it did not bother me at all but I think some people more sensitive for noise could have been disturbed.

The hotel breakfast was OK, a fairly big buffet. Lots of local specialities like pickled peppers and stuff, that you may either love to try or feel you want to pass on. It's not the full "English breakfast" but more like "full Balkan breakfast", which I personally thought was fun.

The gym is small with a "max capacity" of 5 people.

Overall I was very happy with the hotel, good location and cool views, lacking a bit in local charm but I did get some spicy peppers for breakfast. It was a bit pricey for what it was (I paid USD 195).

One day was enough to see the main city sights, walking all over the place. The choice of restaurants was big, both by the river next to the hotel and in pedestrianized Macedonia Street 10 minutes from the hotel. The hotel also has room service.

If you are planning to go to Skopje, this hotel is the best placed in the city center. It is a classical 4 star, a bit better than the average Holiday Inn in other parts of the world. The receptionists are quite professional. They all speak good English, some of them German, French and Greek. It is not particularly cheap, but it it has reasonable prices, in average with Holiday Inn rates. Ask for a room with views to the river, the higher the better, although the 2nd higher part of the hotel has only smoking rooms.
The breakfast is quite complete and the quality is good. Although the resto is also good, it is better to get out of the hotel for a real dinner in one of the very good restaurants across the city.

Stayed in Macedonia twice in the last month firstly at the Alexander Palace and the the holiday Inn have to say although The Alexander had the egde in terms of style and room size I prefered the Holiday Inn. The hotel is ideally situated with an array of bars and restaurants literally 2 mins away all very reasonably priced a beer is about £1.20 and meal no more than £5. I felt completely safe, but watch out for taxi drivers there are a few unsolicited sightseeing scams that can end up costing e 30 . The hotel is adequate and for that part of europe really quite good, agree with the comments re wi fi e 10, be careful because it was my i phone that connected to the wi fi so came as a bit of a surprise. If you are adveturous cross the bridge into the old town walk for about 500m and turn right into a square there is an open air restaurant on the right hand side with a big open grill, the food was suberb and the whole meal including drinks came to £6 per head.

As far as hotels goes, Skopje is still in the 1990s. The city does not offe a truly modern business hotel like many of the cities in the region.

The Holliday Inn is the best option available for all business travelers coming for business in the capital of Macedonia.

Its best asset is without any doubt the location, which puts it a convenient stroll from the city centre and its shopping area, and the many restaurants in the pedestrian zone bordering the river Vardar.

The old city, with the fortress and the small restaurants, is also a short walk away, on the other side of the old otoman bridge.

The interior of the hotel is very (early) 1990s ... I do not want to add more. Hovwever, it is very clean and well maintained.

Breakfast was included in my rate, and offers abundand choice and good taste from the region.

Wireless internet is available in the rooms, but is not free. The (free) business centre offers two slightly dated PCs and a printer.

The Holiday inn is the best option I know in Skopje, but far from being a good hotel. All rooms, independent if Smoking or non smoking are smoky. Breakfast buffet is ok, but nothing more. Decent coffee / espresso at breakfast is charged extra.
Fitness room is a joke. I never got my Priority Club points posted.

This hotel is probably the best one you can stay at in Skopje. It is clean, breakfast is good, and it is in the central location of local bars and stores. I know that the single room sizes are quite small, but that would be the only issue. As I continue to travel to Skopje, I will continue to stay here. I have tried a couple of other hotels there, and they do not compare to the Holiday Inn. But, Holiday Inn is probably the most expensive hotel in Skopje.

Of the nicer hotels in Skopje, this has the best location, it is very convenient for meetings or just to have a drink or dinner on the Vardar river or anywhere in the center. The hotel is bland and although well-maintained seems already a bit dated. 10 Euros for wireless internet seems to steep (considering that all cafes around it have free internet). The breakfast is pretty terrible for the level of the hotel (i.e. just toasts, no other bread).
The business center has free computers, but they are 10 years old and not very fast--it would be good for the hotel to update these kinds of services, new computers, free wi-fi and a bit more inviting breakfast.
