I go to Azafran very often and I like it very much. The restaurant is lovely, with elegant indoor dining room and some little tables outside. Even in the summer, I'd rather eat indoor because outside is relatively loud and cars are always driving by. The food is very high quality, especially by comparison with other restaurants in town. They offer a wide choice of Spanish dishes but not only. All is nicely presented, the service is very good and the prices are good for the quality - though a little higher than the average in Skopje. There is a wide choice of wines - I do not drink but my friends appreciate them very much. It is a little busy during week ends so I recommend booking or going relatively early in the evening, and avoid going by car because parking could be an issue. Other than that, I highly recommend it!

Quiet evening out, anniversary. Very good mojito, and a great paella. All-around good service. A lot of construction work in the near vicinity at that moment, but it should not be the case anymore.

If you are in Skopje, you really should try Azafran! We happened upon it on a Saturday evening when we had just arrived in Skopje, when the whole city was very quiet due to it being out of season. There was only one other occupied table in the restaurant so we wondered if it was any good - but we needn't have worried! We established at the door that they accept payment in Euros (not having had time to get any dinars yet) and the staff were really friendly from the start - our waiter spoke pretty good English and was very keen to assist us with the menu and give recommendations. The menu is listed in Spanish, English and Macedonian so no problems there! They have plenty of traditional Spanish dishes and in our opinion they were pretty authentic and certainly very tasty, especially the spicy Patatas Bravas. My friend had a steak and said it was one of the best he'd ever had. There is also a fantastic selection of wine from around the world - our waiter helped us choose a lovely Macedonian rose - and everything, from the food to the drink, was very cheap by English/Western European standards. At the end of the meal, our waiter asked us if we had tried the national drink, rakija, and when we said not yet, he brought us all a large shot - on the house.
However, what really made the night for us was the presence of a live piano player, who was performing all the easy listening classics. After a few drinks we decided to ask if he did requests, and he did! We gave our waiter the name of a song - Beyond The Sea - and he passed it to the pianist. At first he didn't seem to recognise the title, but then the next thing we knew, we heard the original song coming from somewhere in the restaurant. It turned out that the staff had fired up YouTube on a laptop and found the song, and as soon as the pianist heard it he realised he did know it after all, and launched into an excellent rendition. We were delighted and so grateful to the staff for going 'above and beyond' to please us. Needless to say, they got a big tip!
In fact, we liked Azafran so much that we ended up returning on the next night - it was equally quiet being a Sunday, and there was no live music, but the food was still lovely (we tried the paella this time) and so was the bottle of T'ga Za Jug (Macedonian red).
Highly recommended on all counts!
