No one can deny that Macedonia Square needed a focal point in the form of a fountain or a statue, but such an oversized example of Las Vegas type kitsch, out of proportion to nearby buildings and in combination with myriad other statues that populate the edges of the square without any historical or indeed logical order, has spoiled everything. Not to mention who knows how many milions of euros spent on such monstruosities which could be better spent on schools, museums, hospitals, etc! My proposition is to keep the lower part of the monument / fountain (including the central column and the statues of warriors), but to replace the statue of so-called warrior on horseback with something smaller, equally ancient Macedonian in spirit: the Sun of Vergina, for example.
