This place has a fun atmosphere and is in a great location if you're in the Andover area, but lately has been disappointing. Recent meals here have been "o.k.", nothing special or especially tasty.

YUM !!! Perhaps the best Mexican food we have had in the Boston area in several years.
After several decades in southern Cal and Texas, with nibbles in Co, Az and NM we do have
some expectations and Casa Blanca met them on all 6 dishes we ordered. We will be back.
Noise level was high. Service was attentive. The restaurant is upstairs - not street level. There
is an elevator. Metered parking lot on the street to the south of the restaurant, free parking
along the street beyond the lot.

Casa Blanca is located in downtown Andover. The restaurant is on the second floor of a historic building, overlooking the old Andover Town Hall and Main Street, with its many and varied retail shops -- a beautiful location. The food at Casa Blanca is beautifully presented, fresh and delicious and not bathed in high calorie and thick tasteless sauces. The food is perfectly cooked, with fish and meat choices. And, if you are a vegetarian, there are a myriad of choices on the vegetarian menu, including vegetarian enchiladas, fajitas and quesadillas. Most entrees include the choice of two sides and the side choices include more sauted and not over-cooked veggies, rice, beans, etc. The ambiance is pretty and welcoming. The bar is friendly, but a little small. The restaurant is comfortable for both couples and famiies. Service is excellent. It's one of our favorite restaurants in Andover.

We were very happy with our experience at Casa Blanca! The food at nearly ALL suburban Mexican restaurants, lacks authenticity, and well, variety - I have always pictured the kitchen at these places containing 3 huge pots of 3 different foods, that's it, just 3, out of which are fashioned ALL of the menu items - the plates coming out of the kitchen looking only vaguely different, the shapes of the food being the only tell tale distinction, but all tasting pretty much exactly the same, and all having the same moushy, cheesy texture.

BUT, at Casa Blanca, that was not our experience at all! Right from the beginning, the differences began, with the trio of salsas - no generic salsa here, oh no, and the chips were quite nice, as well. What was most exciting were the fresh vegetables in the dishes. We ordered the steak fajitas, and the veg that accompanied them were bright, colorful, al dente - not an oversauteed pile of lifeless onions and peppers that is normally seen with fajitas in suburban chains. The steak was lovely, no odd bits of cartilage, no fat, excellent. We also ordered the vegetable quesadillas. You can get either spinach and onions or sauteed veg - I was on the fence, and the waitress very helpfully suggested that I could get half and half. The spinach was clearly fresh - very green, lightly sauteed. The veg included zucchini, peppers, carrots, mushrooms - all fresh, even the mushrooms, not canned. OK, so maybe the horrible suburban chain Mexican restaurants have ruined us, but this was all a huge treat. The quesadillas also had just the right amount of Mexican cheese, not too much, so the flavor of the veg really shone through.

One of us was uncertain about whether to order the pollo pepe or the pollo mole. Again, our very helpful and friendly waitress suggested we get the pollo pepe, and that she would bring out a side ramekin of the mole sauce - which is what we did, and this worked out perfectly, allowing us to experience the mole without having to fully commit to the dish.
The chicken was very nicely cooked, not dry. The pollo pepe was a low fat dish - there are many such dishes on the menu here, which is another lovely departure from the dross that proliferates on the menus of so many chain suburban Mexican restaurants. There were many healthy dishes from which to choose. They are not labeled as such, you just have to read the descriptions.

I don't believe I have mentioned the margaritas yet, ah, lovely, very flavorful. And, there was no skimping with the tequila! Another super departure from the traditional suburban chain Mexican restaurants!

The decor was very inviting, the feel of a Mexican country courtyard, lovely tile work. Everything was extremely clean, and as I mentioned, service was very helpful.

Nothing actually went wrong, but I personally don't find much to recommend. If you are looking specifically for a Mexican restaurant in Andover center, it is your only choice. However, I have not found the food to be anything special, and the service can be a little slow. Both times have been at lunchtime, dinner might possibly be different, but I doubt that I will find out.
