We have stayed in B&Bs around the US and Europe and enjoy the character and charm of each. I like to preface this review to say that we are flexible and easy-going travelers. This experience was a major disappointment. Victorian style was one of the charms of such a place. I expected a dark hallway with ornate and cramped rooms, but the pleasure stopped there. The entranceway and the entire house were so musty! Anne, the innkeeper, immediately said to us "I hope you like cats" and when you looked around, there were about 5 cats under tables and on chairs. This was not mentioned about this place. I did need to use my inhaler with all of the musty air and dust around. When Anne offered us the downstairs room, I said no because there were cats SLEEPING ON THE BED!! There were no cats in the room we took, but it wasn't until the next morning that I saw the clumps of cat hair on the carpet. Both innkeepers were frankly odd- Alan hovering over us in the parlor and Anne sitting down at breakfast with some of the guests to discuss her Parkinson's disease. The breakfast, in another building about 1/3 mile up the street, was a BUFFET with cold cereal, cold scrambled eggs, deli ham, and microwave sausage. I acknowledge that this work would be hard, but when I was charged $280 for one night, you expect much better. Overall, really disappointed with this place.
