a great place to stay

Review of Amherst Inn
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 12, 2019
This is a quiet and comfortable place to stay. Our thanks to owner, Alan, who we got to know and shared with us his favorite ice cream before we headed off to bed. And special thanks to Pam for showing us around, making sure we had everything we needed and then made us a fabulous breakfast in the morning. She even gave me a personal lesson in the kitchen on how to cook the perfect fried egg! I'll be cooking them that way from now on. Thanks Pam!

This hotel and its partner down Main Street about half a kilometer are comfortable, well attired older Amherst homes with very friendly, flexible staff, comfortable accommodations, and all the necessary basic amenities (toiletries with small but clean and well organized bathrooms; free wireless; and breakfast included). There are a limited number of parking spots by the Amherst Inn and a few along the side street. The decor is classic New England with some quirks and plenty of promotional material on local history and cultural options. And the price is quite reasonable!

This is a very small inn and we were unexpectedly pleased with our accommodations. Our room was small but it had EVERYTHING we could possibly want. The room was immaculate and price reasonable. The exterior of the building was well maintained as were all the furnishings inside. II highly recommend this charming inn.

My girlfriend and I are Emily Dickinson fans and we were up overnight to visit her house. The inn is located right across the street from her house and that made the inn extra special. Anne the innkeeper is wonderful, the breakfast delicious with the best eggs I ever had, and it actually feels like you are sleeping in a warm friend’s house. The only minor issues I had were that we could not figure out how to make the room cooler and it did not appear that there were any staff around to assist us in the evening. Also since there are no tv’s in the rooms, the one tv in the shared common room should offer more channels including espn for the sports fans among us. The location is a 5 minute walk to
Town which is really nice and there are plenty of dining options available there, but don’t eat too much as you will want to leave room for that delicious breakfast.

My husband and I visited Amherst for the first time for a getaway weekend. We wanted a place to stay with charm and personality that was also convenient to the local sights. The Amherst Inn was the perfect choice! The Inn is in tip top condition, spotlessly clean and within walking distance of the town, Amherst College, and the Emily Dickinson museum. Our room was very comfortable and we were instantly made to feel right at home. The owner and the staff were wonderful. The breakfast that was served was hearty and delicious with just about anything you could think ask for. If we are ever in this area again we would definitely return to this lovely old B&B!

Really wanted to love this place from the previous review but was a bit disappointed. Arrived and the parking area was a sheet of glass. Clearly they take care of the steps and sidewalk, but didn't feel the need for the parking area. Feared for my life every time we had to go in and out of the Inn. Second, it would be nice if they offered fresh cold water. We returned late at night, and looked in the refrigerator but found none. The room was cozy and comfortable. The Inn is very clean. Breakfast was another let down. All of the hot food had been prepared earlier and put in tins. Would have preferred fresh food that was made to order. The Inn Keeper was sweet and asked about our stay whenever she saw us. For the price it was fine, but would not return anytime soon,
