“A "10" from "savvy" locals:)!!”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Finally a nice evening for strolling Amherst (from "across the river" in Northampton!) we popped in about 7:30 on a weekend night & were pleased that there was room for 2 without a reservation. Have been several times (drinks/lunches/dinners) we've usually liked the creative menu and very pleased with recent, extensive renovation .The décor is lovely/cozy/upscale with dining options ranging from tables against banquettes along walls, a few private alcoves and great seating in bar-all in one open room (with stylish private function room beyond French doors overlooking gardens). The outdoor area is great for drinks, fire pit overlooking Amherst Commons plus tables around a broad veranda available for dining. (Wish they'd replace the large/awkward round tables in center of room-most diners tend to avoid them unless a large party!). There have been service issues (none serious/mostly pacing) on past visits but we were in the mood for an "adult night out"!
Greeted warmly by charming Cameron we selected a smaller table near the windows and were soon greeted by Drew who kept us happy throughout the evening. They seem to have taken a "team approach" to serving as a succession of lovely servers brought us water/wine/amuse bouche (tiny dish of ramps and asparagus with garlic aioli-wish we hadn't passed on their good bread!). Menu varied/manageable size with each entrée described well (each with their own carefully selected sides-no "veg of the day and starch" here!). A flat iron steak prepared as requested with creamy polenta and kale for one; a perfect pork chop with faro, chard and a creamy white bean for the other. Nicely priced wine list (with all selections at $7 &11 per glass/$35 per (every!) bottle (nice chard to start and the French pinot noir-they had several options- with dinner). Had fresh small side salads and a split a decadent chocolate dessert to top off a relaxed and delicious evening. Throughout the meal we had a chance to chat with both Cameron and Drew and let them know how wonderfully all those crucial pieces-atmosphere/food/service-had come together! Kudos and keep up the good work-we can't wait to return!

“Not worthwhile”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

My friends and I wanted to try someplace different for lunch. The atmosphere of the inn beckoned. We should have looked around and left. The food isn't quite mediocre. The chef's salads were small and totally underwhelming. The vegetarian patty (chick peas and sweet potatoes) served dry with no dressing or condiment.
We will not return. Try Johnny's Tavern or Chez Albert for better food.

“As good as it gets”
Reviewed March 21, 2014

From greeting to goodbye, it was as perfect a dining experience as could be had. The ambience was delightful, and the food and service were exceptional, in the truest sense of the word. Every sip was delicious, every bite extraordinary, and there wasn't a single staff member who didn't go out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Our dinner here stands with the best meals we've had anywhere (and our "anywhere" includes top restaurants across the country). Can't wait for our return visit!

“Sophisticated, Elegance & Charming”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

We met her 10 years ago and returned this February. The Lord Jeff has changed and all for the better. Our meal was a delight. The wine list was perfect. Service was impeccable. We find this kind of atmosphere in Boston or New York and we have this gem right here in our backyard. We will return again and again.
