Finally a nice evening for strolling Amherst (from "across the river" in Northampton!) we popped in about 7:30 on a weekend night & were pleased that there was room for 2 without a reservation. Have been several times (drinks/lunches/dinners) we've usually liked the creative menu and very pleased with recent, extensive renovation .The décor is lovely/cozy/upscale with dining options ranging from tables against banquettes along walls, a few private alcoves and great seating in bar-all in one open room (with stylish private function room beyond French doors overlooking gardens). The outdoor area is great for drinks, fire pit overlooking Amherst Commons plus tables around a broad veranda available for dining. (Wish they'd replace the large/awkward round tables in center of room-most diners tend to avoid them unless a large party!). There have been service issues (none serious/mostly pacing) on past visits but we were in the mood for an "adult night out"!
Greeted warmly by charming Cameron we selected a smaller table near the windows and were soon greeted by Drew who kept us happy throughout the evening. They seem to have taken a "team approach" to serving as a succession of lovely servers brought us water/wine/amuse bouche (tiny dish of ramps and asparagus with garlic aioli-wish we hadn't passed on their good bread!). Menu varied/manageable size with each entrée described well (each with their own carefully selected sides-no "veg of the day and starch" here!). A flat iron steak prepared as requested with creamy polenta and kale for one; a perfect pork chop with faro, chard and a creamy white bean for the other. Nicely priced wine list (with all selections at $7 &11 per glass/$35 per (every!) bottle (nice chard to start and the French pinot noir-they had several options- with dinner). Had fresh small side salads and a split a decadent chocolate dessert to top off a relaxed and delicious evening. Throughout the meal we had a chance to chat with both Cameron and Drew and let them know how wonderfully all those crucial pieces-atmosphere/food/service-had come together! Kudos and keep up the good work-we can't wait to return!
