“Nice hotel, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2012

We were visiting Amherst to attend a conference and to check out the university for our son. The rooms were really beautiful, clean, modern. The hotel staff was very friendly and courteous. The outside of the building isn't very attractive, but the inside was lovely. We had a nice view of part of the campus and the mountains.

The room is fine and the location is very convenient.

Unfortunately, the fire alarm went off during my stay and the elevators were shut down for several hours.

It was a great stay. I had a great experience staying at this hotel that is located in the center of student living. The location so close to a rural setting was especially enjoyable coming from a major city like NYC.

We stayed here while visiting colleges in the area. It was a great choice. It was hard to find--hard to believe there wasn't really a front door if you arrive by car...just follow signs into garage, and to hotel. Very convenient, very pleasant inside! as other posters said, windows open which helps control temp. Also very inexpensive. Continental breakfast was very nice. Service was good. Couldn't get online with our macs, and the hotel people couldn't' help. Come on guys, its a college campus. Finally got online one day. The beds were a bit...firm. They were firm foam.
I left my phone charger, called and asked about it, and received it in the mail a few days later. That was nice!

I stayed there last week while visiting the UMass campus as a prospective grad student. It is situated very conveniently on campus within walking distance to most of the departments (Be ready to walk though- it's quite a walk to and fro). The hotel building looks drab from outside but the very industrial construction with concrete walls and ceilings has been very tastefully decorated and designed on the inside.

Service was great and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed to learn that most of the staff are hospitality/hotel management students. They were very professional and helpful. Some reviews here mentioned that the rooms are not that good so, I was prepared for the worst but, I was very impressed with the rooms. It was better than most decent hotels. There were two double beds, a wall-mounted flat screen tv, desk, chairs, great lighting. The room had a hair-dryer, coffee machine and iron with ironing board.

The bathroom is tiny but well fitted and clean. Shower stall with glass doors may fit two people! The heater in the room was pretty good and I could change the setting from my room itself- from 65 to 75 F, I think..I dont remember the range exactly. The room also comes with an iPod/iPhone charging dock with radio and alarm. I could access the Hotel Wifi with the access information the reception desk gave me.

Parking is below the hotel but you should not park near the entrance to the garage. You need to keep driving till you reach the garage entrance to the building especially if you have luggage. You will have to carry it till the elevators. The lobby is on the third floor of the building.

Breakfast is continental. I'm not sure if there is a restaurant but there are eateries on the floor below the hotel lobby. I am not sure about the room rates as the university covered my stay but I heard its reasonable. The only cons- The walls ARE a little thin- not enough to hear conversation but you can hear boisterous laughter and the shower running- that sort of thing. There are no signs clearly directing to the hotel or the garage. We kind of drove around a bit and took wrong turns for 20 minutes looking for the front enterance before making it to the garage instead. I really enjoyed my stay though. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The rooms are along a long corridor so you may want to choose one in the middle so its not a long wa...

I recently stayed here while visiting campus as a prospective graduate student. I booked the hotel for the sole reason that it is situated directly on campus, and within walking distance of Amherst Center-both of which I wanted to explore.

The pros to this hotel are: One-it's location. Book this hotel if you want easy access to campus activities, friends, or events in Amherst Center. Two: Parking is free (and until 5pm on the day of your departure), and in an attached parking garage. Three: They have an excellent staff, many of which are hospitality students. And four: The price is reasonable, even the standard daily rate.

The cons (and to note-these were not negatives towards my stay, but certainly some points that might be considered). One: The garage is quite a walking distance to the hotel lobby (which is on the third floor of the Student Union), and requires walking through the often crowded student union in order to access the elevator. Two: the continental breakfast area is very small-perhaps eat breakfast before checking out, there really isn't enough room to bring your suitcase with you. Three: Bathroom lighting (at least in my room) was not adequate, especially over the sink. Four: It is still unclear to me if there is an actual restaurant on the hotel's top floor-but if you are seeking food, heading down to the Student Union to its several eateries is really your closest option.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to those who seek to visit campus. It is certainly a hidden surprise inside the large brutalist, cement building. I will certainly stay here again.

Dear Tuckertwo,
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent stay at the UMass Hotel at the Campus Center. I really enjoyed the clear and precise way you reviewed our hotel, it was very helpful. To answer your question, no there is no longer a restaurant on top of the Campus Center. It is now a class room for the Hospitality and Tourism Management Students. We look forward to seeing you back soon.

This hotel is in the Campus Center at the University of Massachusetts. The rooms are clean and bright. The bathroom was small but great shower with a glass door (no moldy curtain). They include a continental breakfast and free garage parking. It was a good value and a terrific way to get the feel of the campus. Need better signs to locate it on campus. The hotel is not pretty to look at from the outside but surprisingly nice on the inside.
