Description: Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 cooper street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. We dropped in at The Federal unexpectedly and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was creative and excellent, the service was wonderful and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. All four of us had an enjoyable meal and would recommend this restaurant.

We were disappointed. The Mac and cheese was limp and bland and the short rib was dry. The quail was tasty but overcooked and dry. The bacon wrapped figs were non-descript, but might have really popped with a balsamic reduction. The asparagus was overcooked, but the fried brussel sprouts were outstanding! We didn't like the partially thawed strawberries and the small amount of brownie in the "brownie pot". The service was average and we had to have our bill corrected when our $100.00 gift card was applied as a $30.00 credit. Not a great experience when you consider the prices.

MDH and I have enjoyed the Federal for years. We bring all of our out of town guests here and while it may have started as a special occasions location we frequent it on random dates when we just want to treat ourselves. When planning a celebration for my 50th birthday my family asked where I would like to celebrate and there was no contest. The Federal, largely due to Tina's experience and planning direction and Robert's very competent and engaging service, hosted 37 people at a 3.5 hour event in the first weekend of December that many are still talking about. We began with a station of antipasto and crudite that surpassed anyone's expectation of veggies and Italian meat and cheese. On Tina's urging we limited our passed appetizers to 30 minutes given that we were offering a buffet lunch. Given our experience with the Federal we chose "chefs choice" which meant that while we didn't know what would be passed (other than the famous risotto balls which we requested) 6 different items (instead of 4) were passed. All were delicious but the buzz was really about the method of delivery. All were passed on spoons with empty plates on tables for disposal. We elected to offer 3 entrees on the buffet (salmon, chicken and braised short ribs) along with mac n' cheese, spinach salad, insalata caprese, roasted potatoes and green beans. All were hot and lived up to the Federal's reputation as a culinary destination. A cake was purchased from Cerrato's in West Springfield. The Federal artfully plated the cake with gelato...yum. People who know us know have long known that we enjoy the Federal Restaurant, but now they know why. Thanks for making my 50th memorable for all the right reasons. See you soon!

Great food. Beautiful set up for dinner. We had the best food and the cocktails were out of this world

Starting with popcorn for a little change of taste, then great starters including a slab of foie gas, the main courses were delicious with a wonderful variety of options from lobster and other fish entrees to beef and duck. Desserts were great as well. To end the evening
