Great scenic drive to the summit, not the Rockies but a must see in the Berkshires. Small parking fee. Stop at the visitors center for an orientation.

Beautiful winding road to the summit with amazing views.
Visit the Bascom Lodge. The vast views during the fall are wonderful with all the colors.

Mt Greylock will give you an excellent view of the surrounding area. Go after 12PM when the sun is in the west , shinning on the town below rather then in the morning when the sun is in the east. On a clear day you will love the view. I would stay away on a rainy day as the fog will ruin the vista. If you ski or hike in the winter, there is nothing greater then the quiet & peace on the Mountain. In the past years, snowboarders , skiers & snowshoe lovers have re-discovered the thunderbolt trail . This is not for beginners. Above all , remember the weather on the top of the mountain is colder & could be completely different then in the valley below. Bring extra clothing.,

Mount Greylock is well worth your time whether you are hiking or driving to the top of the mountain. This isn't Rocky Mountain high but at least you won't have trouble breathing because of thin air and the scenery is beautiful. The special thing I found here is that I felt welcomed. Many of these types of sites seem to be about what they can get out of you. Mount Greylock, like many of Massachusetts reservations and state parks, seems to be more about what you can get out of it. Maybe it's just me but I felt really welcomed. I'm not a hiker, we drove to the top of the mountain, but on the way up I saw countless parking areas for hiking trails, there was a great visitor center, and helpful rangers were plentiful. This is what you would expect for a big entry fee but they forgot all about that here. The only fee for using this park was a very reasonable $2.00 per car parking fee at the top, if you want to park. Unless you have a handicap placard, and then it's free. So let's see, beautiful scenery, helpful rangers, easy access, and low, low cost. It all adds up to a must see site.

Drive up the mountain from Mount Grey lock visitor center is excellent. You can hike up the mountain as well from same location. Restruant up in the summit has good food for the price. On a clear day view is excellent.
