“Great Beer Selection”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

If you want a chance to sample great American beers from a restaurant that knows what it is doing, try the Federal House. They have an outstanding, rotating set of beers on tap and they provide you with detailed background on each. The food is also quite good but its hard to top the beer!

“Perfect Friday Visit”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We stopped by for drinks and a snack Friday night after walking by and seeing the outside dining area and hearing live music in the Market area. We had a great experience and ended up staying much longer than planned. Terrific beer selection, delicious Cream of Crab soup, special dessert that night was Bread Pudding which was wonderful. Good service and reasonable prices.

“Great bartender”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We visited The Federal House on Saturday, August 31. We sat down at the bar, were greeted immediately by our bartender (I believe his name was William...middle age man with a pleasant disposition). He asked us where we were from and we said Ardmore outside Philly...he knew where we lived since he had worked at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore. He made my wife a key lime martini that was perfect (in fact he made her two). I had a tequila Sunrise which was good and then he suggested a fruity drink with whiskey in it. I don't drink whiskey but trusted his recommendation and it was a great drink. Great visit and we will be back!

“Federal House Bar & Grille, Annapolis”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

We picked the Federal House Bar and Grille for dinner on our recent visit to Annapolis because it seemed to have a good variety of menu options, from kid-friendly to adult fare. Ordered burgers for the kids and roasted rockfish, one of the "house specialities", and a round of beers for the adults. When the fish arrived it was completely overcooked and dry, and the whole plate had been sprinkled with a large amount of salt - so much so that every bite crunched with salt grains. We sent back the food, complaining about the salt, and assumed that another order would be put in. Well, the kids got their food, ate, and the waiter was clearing their plates when a light bulb went off and he asked if we were expecting any food! We re-ordered, sticking to the bar food this time (fish tacos and the shrimp salad), and the waiter then asked if we would like another round of beers. Thinking it would surely be on the house, we said yes (we were also starving at this point). The food finally arrived - the shrimp salad, served on a croissant, was very good, but the fish tacos were only so so - very small, with a huge amount of rice to compensate. However, at that point we were not complaining. The shocker was the bill - not only was the second round of beers not free, there was no discount at all on the food! We just wanted to leave so we did not ask to speak with the manager, and after thinking about it the waiter returned the bill with a 15% discount on the total. I don't know if he was expecting to get the 15% back in the form of a tip, but we did not leave any extra - the 15% just about covered the second round of beers so aside from losing a fair amount of time there we came out fairly even.

“A Good Choice!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

So glad we stopped here for a meal after "feeling-out" a couple of establishments. We were told that we got the last table and it would be "tight." I thought that we would be sitting on someone's lap, but it was just a smaller table that was adequate for our party of four. The server seemed tired and hurried, but provided adequate service. I had the crab cake which was excellent by Maryland standards. The rest of my party had no complaints. One commented that the menu was more contemporary than most restaurants in the area. However, it did have some traditional choices..
