I have now been to Osteria three times, but eaten only twice. On our first visit, we were overwhelmed with the food: it was fabulous. Everything we tried was wonderful, down to the gluten free seafood pasta. The second time my husband and I popped in, the place was empty. We were told that there wasn't enough wait-staff to accommodate us and that they couldn't help us! (we are middle aged and dressed nicely, so we weren't giving off a dine-and-dash vibe). We thought perhaps a massive party was coming in soon, so rather than debate it, we left. Then came last night. We were a party of 6. We showed up at 6:45. Again, the restaurant was quite empty. We told the hostess that we didn't have reservations, and she said that she would "check to see if she could accommodate us". We debated leaving, but then she told us that she could seat us in 15 minutes and we were welcome to wait in the bar. We asked if there was any reason we couldn't sit down, and she said a large party was expected at 7, and she didn't want to "flood the kitchen" with orders. We then asked if we could sit at a table and have our drinks and wait, which she agreed to. Once she seated us, a waiter did come right over and take drink orders, which confused us even further (tho of course we were pleased!) The other large party never materialized. The meal was quite good, but the hostess' initial reluctance to seat us was baffling. We were a party of 6 professional adults, well dressed and well mannered. Despite the great meal, my enthusiasm for this restaurant has waned. We are making plans for a lunch party at another location.
