“Delicious food, good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2013

Level is a small-plates establishment, but we found the servings just right for more than a taste and less than a mess-hall serving, Prices reflect the serving size.
Our dinner was catered by Level in conjunction with Bay Ridge Spirits for a wine-tasting dinner. The experience was a pleasure, as the foods were beautifully matched to the wines presented. Hors d'oeuvres were oysters with wasabi and hummus with pita strips, both yummy. The menu began with a fruit plate (nothing special), but progressed to a black-bass and shrimp fish course with just a tad of lime sauce that was lovely, The duck breast course was four beautifully-pink slices of duck over sticky black rice (also delicious), followed by a petit filet mignon with bone marrow (my first experience with it-- it was served in the bone, making for a striking presentation-- the fatty texture was somewhat of a put-off, but it complimented the filet, adding loads of flavor). Most courses were served over or topped with blossoms (lavender, nasturtium leaves), which are better left untouched, as I found they detracted from the food flavors. Dessert was an expresso cup of what tasted like fudge with a foamed creme and berry topping-- sinful! Service was friendly and attentive. The only downside to this evening was the noise level, which approached a roar-- hard to hear even people beside or across the table (need some noise reduction measures to make this a truly pleasant dining experience). This was our first visit to this restaurant, and we will be going back again soon.

“Good food, nice casual evening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

Restaurant has a nice comfortable atmosphere. We were here on a Monday night and it was not crowded. Our server was helpful and there when needed. The menu has a great selection. The mushroom rissoto was probably our favorite dish. The pork spring rolls had a good flavor but were greasy. The grilled calamari were fresh and had a good grilled flavor. The vegetarian flatbread we ordered had good fresh toppings but the texture of the crust was a little on the cardboard side. We found the wine selection a little limited, so opted for the sangria which was good. We enjoyed the bread pudding, although it had been left under the broiler a bit long and some of the top was charred. This would be a good place for a group with varied food preferences.

“Turned this wine drinker into a cocktail lover!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

We stopped here on a Friday afternoon for a quick drink and stayed for a few hours trying different drinks and small plates. Very unusual and delicious combinations. Highly recommend! Try the grilled calamari or eggplant---shows that simple can be incredible. Not expensive but not cheap either.

“Fabulous, inventive cocktails, and delicious small plates”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

All around, a great cocktail lounge and food venue. An inventive, delicious cocktail menu. For whiskey lovers, the Bourbonopolis and the Bulleit and Roses cocktails are winners. All of the food plates are delicious and very well executed. This includes such "simple" dishes as Olives and Almonds, and Brussels Sprouts.

“Cozy Environment, Good/Interesting Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

Its always fun to find those neat restaurants that aren't 'mainstream' and Level (to me) seemed to be just that. Four of us had dinner there on a Saturday night, quite busy, but luckily we had called ahead for reservations and were able to be seated as soon as we got there. Our waiter was very nice and attentive the whole time we were there. We started with drinks and a few plates and ordered new ones to try as we finished what we had. We shared 7 dishes (including the group fries and flatbread) and ordered the cookies and milk to top it off. We also tried a variety of their drinks. Both the food and drinks were good. Some of the dishes were different and interesting, but still good - depending on your palate. It was a cozy environment with good food, good friends and good conversation. We enjoyed ourselves very much and would return. The thing to remember is ordering numerous plates can get expensive, so keep that in mind. After dinner you also have the pleasure of walking down to the harbor.
