Level is a small-plates establishment, but we found the servings just right for more than a taste and less than a mess-hall serving, Prices reflect the serving size.
Our dinner was catered by Level in conjunction with Bay Ridge Spirits for a wine-tasting dinner. The experience was a pleasure, as the foods were beautifully matched to the wines presented. Hors d'oeuvres were oysters with wasabi and hummus with pita strips, both yummy. The menu began with a fruit plate (nothing special), but progressed to a black-bass and shrimp fish course with just a tad of lime sauce that was lovely, The duck breast course was four beautifully-pink slices of duck over sticky black rice (also delicious), followed by a petit filet mignon with bone marrow (my first experience with it-- it was served in the bone, making for a striking presentation-- the fatty texture was somewhat of a put-off, but it complimented the filet, adding loads of flavor). Most courses were served over or topped with blossoms (lavender, nasturtium leaves), which are better left untouched, as I found they detracted from the food flavors. Dessert was an expresso cup of what tasted like fudge with a foamed creme and berry topping-- sinful! Service was friendly and attentive. The only downside to this evening was the noise level, which approached a roar-- hard to hear even people beside or across the table (need some noise reduction measures to make this a truly pleasant dining experience). This was our first visit to this restaurant, and we will be going back again soon.
