The restaurant we wanted to go to was full, so we ate here. Big mistake. The clam chowder was loaded with cornstarch. None of us finished; wasn't worth the calories. The oil and vinegar served (at our request) with our salads, had no taste; must have been corn oil or similar instead of olive oil. Only plain red vinegar was available, no balsamic. And the waiter could hardly remember anything. All of the salad dressings were initially wrong, etc. One telltale sign about the service is that the server had to ask each time who was getting what. Etc. I asked for tea with lemon but only got the tea. That's the way it went. Very disappointing.

“Down down downhill”

My family and I have gone to this restaurant a few times and have never had any issues with it. During this visit my husband ordered a Rockfish salad for lunch and the fish was sent out severely undercooked. Really disgustingly undercooked. He sent it back and a good 15 minutes later was given the replacement dish which was just fine. No visit from the manager with an apology or any compensation was given. This is the wrong way to run a business and we will definitely not be going back with any future business.

“Great Local Spot”

Great Service, great raw bar. Stop in for a dozen on the half shell. Great convenient location, sort of cozy setting, good place for a date night.

“Terrific Place /// Wonderful Atmosphere”

An Annapolis legend....you can always count on McG for a great service and great food. Always fresh, the crabcakes are to die for. Likewise if raw oyster are your thing....they have the best.

“One of the Oldest Pubs in Annapolis, Good drinks/OK food!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

This bar is probably the most popular name in bars in Annapolis, MD. It's located downtown, near the harbor, kinda behind the market place. Very Clean and new looking even thou its been there forever.
You walk in and the bar meets you to your right and runs almost the length of the bar. Seating is either at the bar or on the left which when crowded is a tight fit. There is a back bar to the rear left which has additional seating that has a little more room. Bathrooms are upstairs.
McGarvey's specializes in seafood dishes, (oysters mainly). The bartenders are above average and have been there for decades.
I am not a Oyster fan, and i guess thats why this bar only gets a average rating. Nothing wrong here just everything to eat is based on Oysters and Crab Dip(which everyone says is great).
Prices are average, Food selection is below average, service is above average. Location is OK. If you in Annapolis, stop in try the crab dip and a oyster shooter(everyone seems to order this combo).

HAVE FUN!!
