“Eastport Gem”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Fabulous old home converted into a restaurant, great outdoor dining and bar seating with kitchen views. What's not to love? Selection of wines, fresh local, farm to table foods and beautiful presentatuon sealed the deal on this one! A keeper for sure!

“Good Karma, great food!”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Vin 909 has a great vibe. The staff are uniformly warm, personal, knowledgeable and professional. We always feel welcome and have so much fun! There are a variety of reasonably priced wines by the glass And the food....AMAZING. The chef has a changing menu of seasonal offerings and these are not your stock expected dishes, but really innovative and delicious surprises. I usually will order the pizza special and have gotten everything from broccoli rabe with orange oil, to New England baked beansand bacon, to shredded leek fried in duck fat on my pie. I can tell you, that each one has been fabulous. There are no reservations, and because this is so popular, you may have a wait, but believe me, it's worth it!

“This Zagat-rated "wine cafe" gets six stars from us!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Take note restaurateurs: this is how you do European/California bistro-style: relaxed and informal, with great service and very good fresh food at reasonable prices. There is nowhere else in or around Annapolis that offers this type of dining experience done the right way. The closest we've found is in Easton. We were not disappointed on this repeat visit. We have found Vin 909 to be consistently good in every way. At lunch with friends on this cold January day, the three of us shared a few terrific dishes in the comfortable dining room - with fireplace as well as an open brick-oven. All food is freshly made and of the highest quality. Our selections included a delicious brick-oven pizza with pesto and three types of mushrooms and a thin crust, baked to perfection. The butter and caper Brussels sprouts converted the one in our midst who "doesn't like Brussels sprouts." The olives and almonds starter came with thinly-sliced toasted baguette and was plentiful enough to share. The olives were warm. We were impressed when our server volunteered that the soup of the day, leek and mushroom, was vegan. Our vegan friend proclaimed it to be "perfect!" There is also more than enough choice for vegetarians; and yet more choice for diners with more traditional tastes who may want meat or seafood. A $5 specially-priced glass of good Montepulciano rounded out our meal nicely. The restaurant bills its pours as "some of the best wines and beers you've never heard of." Unfortunately, we did not have coffee or dessert this time but even at a busy lunch time, we didn't feel rushed to leave our table. We look forward to going back on a warmer day and enjoying the back patio (enclosed for cooler weather and with propane heaters); or have a meal at one of the little tables on the front porch. We eat lunch out at least once a week, and dinner with the same regularity. In 30 plus years, we've made our way through most of the restaurants in the area - at least twice. Many of them are good but none comes close to matching Vin 909 for a totally smart yet casual dining experience. One can see where if many people are waiting inside for a table, as mentioned by another reviewer, it could feel crowded; but when reservations are not possible, one has to accept that a wait may be necessary and worth it. If a place is busy, it usually means that people know a thing or two. On a nice day, one can wait outside on one of the benches provided in the front garden, sit at the bar, or call 20 minutes or so ahead to have your name put on a waiting list. The restaurant's web site is worth visiting for a sample menu, wine and beer lists, and a little history of how this gem came to be. Note: Saturday and Sunday, Vin 909 is open for dinner only. Whenever you go, be prepared to be delighted. There are always quiet exclamations of delight from at least one neighboring table. Today was no exception.

“Great if you can get a table”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Finally a restaurant with quality - taste - and atmosphere that beats all others in town and reminds me of my New York homeland. Try the small pizzas - if they can get it right - why cant my local pizzeria.

The food is superb (and not just by Annapolis standards). Tuna tartar, the sliced steak, the salads - all great.

The only dig is often having to wait a while for a table. Go early or late but go.

“Good choice”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Vin 909 is cute with good food! The menu is very fresh, although a little limited for my tastes. I would like to see a few more choices added. The service is usually very good. My largest complaint is they are always busy but do not have an organized wait list, hostess, or any kind of reservation system. Boo
