Got a discount coupon from Travelzoo for myself and my boyfriend. Did tour in middle of the week in the afternoon so less other boat traffic to navigate around (waterways pretty full of sail and motorized boats) and for easier commute to and from DC. Pete and Kate wonderful guides, VERY fun and informative. Kayaks were the sit on vs sit in and seemed easier to navigate than the sit in (have done both). Equipment (boats and life vests) seemed to be in good working order. Group was good sized to be able to stay together but give each other space (I've done another kayak tour on the Potomac and group too big, people were ramming into each other).

We are Annapolitans, but we still loved this historic tour of Annapolis by kayak. The 2-hour trip was laid back -- you don't need to be a hard core athlete to do the trip (plus, the kayaks are tandems, so you share the work). Cap'n Pete was, in his words, a "plethora" of knowledge. We did, indeed, learn things we didn't know about Annapolis history. The 8:30am trip was great - no boat traffic, cool weather and calm waters. We would definitely recommend to our out of town guests as a way to see Annapolis and get out on the water.

My husband and I went kayaking with another couple this past week. Captain Kate and Pirate Pete were our instructors and guides. No one in our group is an experienced kayaker and we were able to navigate the Chesapeake with no problems. The pace was easy to keep up with and our guides were hilarious and informative about what we were seeing along the banks. Highly recommended!

Though they call this an historic tour, it's not a boring, history-over load. The guides are great about giving you just enough facts about Annapolis (ranging from present day celebrity homes you're passing, all the way back to colonial times), along with moments of silence to enjoy the scenery. The tour lasts two hours and includes a break halfway through with juice & granola bars. The kayaks each seat two, and Pete gives a good class before you leave on how to paddle. That being said, the route is so easy you could practically float half of the time, meaning you can concentrate on looking around, and worry less about constantly paddling. Definitely something fun and different to do while you're in Annapolis whether you're visiting or you're a local.

Extra Information:
Parking in the lot by the boat dock is free (it's where you meet up with Kate & Pete). If you don't want to get into your car while wet, bring an extra pair of clothes and you can change in the bathroom located in the parking lot. You don't get soaked, but your butt might get wet, and of course you have walk in the water to enter/exit the kayak so your feet get wet. Kate does have a water proof bag for key/wallet storage while you're on the water. You don't need to bring anything other than yourself & your car keys. Also, they do provide a wide range of life jackets/sizes, though in our group there was someone that brought their own.

Great enthusiastic tour, and different perspective on Annapolis. I grew up in the area and even interned for Historic Annapolis Foundation when I was in high school, but I still was surprised by some of the information Pete provided on Annapolis. They promise you will get wet ( minimally), definately bring water shoes for getting in and out of the kayak and bring a change of shoes and a towel to leave in the car if going out to eat right away after. Most people are in tandem, two person kayaks, but if you come in a group with an odd amount of people put your strongest in the single kayak. Overall though not a difficult kayak trip, very relaxing, we went on a Thursday afternoon with nice weather. I imagine it could be more difficult on a weekend with more boat traffic. If needed do use the restroom at the beginning of the 2 hour trip, it is the only one you will see.
