“Average food, slow service but good facilities”
Review of Joe's Crab Shack - CLOSED

I liked the hand washing stations around the dining area, the children's playground outside, and the general ambience of the restaurant. Food took a long time to come, and was pretty average. It wasn't overly salty, though, and we appreciated that. I don't know that I would rush to return, but it would probably be worth a second visit, especially in the spring/summer due to the play area and the fun atmosphere. Be prepared to wait, though. And it wasn't even that busy when we went!

This location hasn't been open too long; 2 years or less. When they first opened, it was great. Always packed but the food was delicious and service was excellent. The frequent line dancing with the "song of the day" was fun and did not interfere with food or service. Just went back this weekend and it has done a 180. We were greeted immediately but had a large group and were asked to wait while the hostess set up a table. However, another large group came right behind us and was seated immediately, no explanation. Could be that we needed high chairs and a booster, but she had already had 5 minutes to set those things up, so I couldn't see a reason for that.

After that, our waitress came over pretty quickly. She seemed overworked and overall, despite coming at 2pm, the place seemed under staffed. We ordered our drinks and food for the kids immediately but then were left to stew. The food for the kids came out before we even had an opportunity to order the adult meals. We finally asked if we could order! The waitress never slowed down but kept being nagged by her manager to dance during certain songs even though she was obviously leaving tables waiting. That just speaks of poor management. After taking 15-20 minutes to order, it took about an hour for our food to come out. Luckily there is a playground out back or the kids would have been climbing the walls. Our food came out cold but by then, we didn't care. We just wanted to eat and leave. And we had come for a birthday celebration. We had initially planned on embarrassing the birthday boy, but by the end of the meal, we just were all anxious to leave and skipped the festivities. Will not be returning to this location at least for a long time. Hopefully they will fix their management issues.

Hopefully the food has improved in the last few months. The three times I've eaten there with family and friends, the seafood I've ordered has been cold.

My sister is visiting Maryland and she wanted to try Joe's crab shack. It is easy to get to located in Harford County off 924. The service is fantastic. We were greeted with huge smiles and all our questions about any meals were answered.

She has an allergy and the waitress immediately got the manager and together they made us feel like they bent over like Chinese acrobats. Our food was incredible, I had the paella and she ordered the pasta laya which is similar to a seafood jambalaya. The manager made sure our food was well taken care of. Everything is delicious, service is very quick and efficient. I will definitely be coming back to enjoy the food which is more amazing because of the service! It is a nice and casual dining. You see couples and families sitting and enjoying their meals. It's a great restaurant.
