We were on our way to take our daughter to Yale to begin grad school, and stopped here for a few hours sleep over-night because we had Wyndham rewards points making this a free night's stay. We arrived very late and left early the next morning. The area seemed safe enough and the hotel parking lot was well lit. We felt safe checking-in after midnight. The night desk clerk was very prompt and courteous, and the lobby, although quite simple and small, was very clean. The property is older, but with the exception of the nasty and worn-out carpet in the hallway and in our room, seems to be well maintained for a budget property. Our room looked and smelled clean(with the exception of the carpet), and when we pulled back the bedspread we were greeted with clean and good smelling sheets. The bed itself was comfortable for a budget hotel/motel bed. Our bathroom was simple, with older fixtures, but clean. Breakfast, of course was budget, all cheap carbs... (other budget properties we've stayed at generally offer a few fruits too.) Hint:The addition of a few fresh fruits, yogurt, etc. would be greatly appreciated for the rapidly growing numbers of us who must eat gluten-free.
With new carpet and maybe some fruit, etc. at breakfast, this Super 8 would be definitely be above average for a budget property.
Of course, if you have extra money, choose somewhere else. Increasingly the hotels in this chain are dirty and not like it used to be years ago where you get something inexpensive but wonderfully clean. The first room I was given clearly had dried urine on the top of the seat and brown hair on the floor. I complained and was given another room. Unfortunately this room too had a lot of urine at the base of the toilet. Thankfully since I had cleaner that was in my car, I went out and got it and just cleaned the bathroom myself. It's amazing for a motel bathroom to get cleaned approximately every day, there's no reason for dark dirty stains in the bathtub. Just gross but I needed something expensive to stay near the Cal Ripken Stadium.
