We (me, wifey, kids 6+4) booked a weekend at the Senator hoping to get away and relax. We reserved one of the less expensive rooms and honestly didn't expect much given the rate and knowing it was not in the main part of the hotel but more like a "motel" setup.

We were pleasantly surprised to say the least. The room was nice and very clean. It was a tad small but there was a king bed and a pull out sofa for the kiddos. The bathroom had a nice big shower. There was a door leading to the parking lot and a door leading to the interior hallway which is a nice touch.

The restaurant was really nice. We ate dinner there and the hostess and waitress were both super nice and the food was great. Breakfast was also terrific and was included in the room price! They called it continental breakfast but they had eggs and waffles and really everything we wanted.

The pool. As parents, half the reason we pick a hotel is because it has a pool. And we liked this pool.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are "motel" drive-up type but ours also had a door into the main part of...

Thank you for reviewing the Senator Inn & Spa. We have a variety of room styles from smaller economy sized rooms to Luxury suites. Many of our guests enjoy having a doorway to the outside for a quick access to their vehicle and also the convenience having a door to the interior hallway as well. We are very proud of our morning buffet breakfast and are delighted you enjoyed it.
We look forward to seeing you again soon!

I was very pleased with our stay at the Senator Inn & Spa. I gave my daughter a complete spa day for her birthday, she loved being pampered all day. The only thing we found not up to standards was the waitress we had that evening in the dining room. She obviously was not having a very good night, because it showed in her actions and words to us. We had appetizers, dinner and dessert. When we asked to have our dessert packaged up to take back to the room, she stated
" Yes thats probably a good idea" we thought that was uncalled for.

Thank you Ms. Flannery for reviewing our hotel. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your mother, daughter weekend. It’s always nice to be pampered once and awhile. The Senator Inn’s goal is for every guest to leave satisfied and we will be passing on your experience to the Restaurant Manager to ensure all of the wait staff are offering the best service possible.

If you're visiting the Capitol or the State Museum/ library- this is a very convenient place to stay.
Dinner was excellent. I highly recommend the salmon salad. Salmon was very tasty and juicy and the salad ingredients all complimented each other perfectly. dressing was perfect.
Our biggest complaint was that it was terribly dry in the room which made both my husband and myself uncomfortable. The shower is a big hard spray that can't be controlled so you get blasted and so does the floor.

Thank you Victoria S for sharing your experience at the Senator Inn. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the salmon salad during your stay. The dry air in the hotel has been due to such a cold winter we’ve been having this year.

We strive to be environmentally friendly and we gladly take your suggestions to improving our hotel.

We hope you see you again soon.

My sister and I stayed for one night to break up a long road trip to U Maine, and we didn't want to leave! We ate dinner in the bar, and the food and drinks were excellent. The Continental Breakfast was good, too. Fresh fruit, and homemade donuts were the highlights of breakfast. There was a lot of food to choose from. The room was fine - but we didn't spend much time there. It large, not spotlessly clean, but adequate. We went for the pool and spa, and got out monies worth. It was a good break from February blahs. Everyone who worked there was extremely friendly.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Presidential Suite. It was nice because we didn't need to go outside to get to th...

There are two million people in Atlantic Canada and it's a good bet that most of them at one time or another drive the I-95 through Maine to other New England states or points beyond, usually Florida. At the end of the first day's drive there are a number of small Maine cities that compete for this interstate traffic and while Bangor, Waterville and Lewiston-Auburn all have their charms we think Augusta is the nicest stopping place and in Augusta we think the Senator Inn is the best place to stay.

We first started staying there over twenty years ago when it was a Best Western and continue to do so now that it is locally owned. The reason is simple - the price/value ratio is excellent. Recently, without reservations we just pulled in and asked for the best rate for a room with a king bed - $97.00 with continental breakfast.

The Senator is not an inn, but a motor hotel. Once you are in your room you don't have to go outside to visit the spa, the gym, the pool, the bar or the restaurant as there are interior hallways connecting everything. Our room was perfectly adequate with free wi-fi, a fridge, microwave and decent toiletries.

We headed down to the Oyster Bar for an early supper and to take advantage of happy hour prices. The Oyster Bar is really cozy and there were actually politicians making deals over martinis. I had noticed their distinct license plates in the parking lot. An excellent martini followed by a glass of wine each, a half dozen very fresh oysters and a good margharita pizza came to $50.00 including tax and tip.

In the morning the continental breakfast was of the deluxe variety with everything one expects, plus scrambled eggs and refried potatoes. We continued on to Boston refreshed and with our wallets relatively unscathed. This is a very good stopover on I-95.

Room Tip: The food is really good here so you can park your car and not worry about going out again.

We stayed at the Senator for a quick, local, getaway, we have stayed here previously and enjoy the pool area. We spent a wonderful evening enjoying the pool and hot tub, I was disappointed that the steam room was out of order, we did use the dry saunas in the locker room. The Spa Suite is a well-appointed room, comfortable bed, separate seating area with 2nd tv, fridge , microwave, and desk. The bathroom is large and has a deep, jetted tub with a waterfall feature, just lovely. We had the expanded cont. brk. in the dining room, lots of choices, well-presented and tended. We took a swim before we checked out the next morning and did see maintenance working on the steam room, next time I will ask if it is in operation before I make a reservation, because like a lot of Mainers this has been a long winter and I need to thaw out!

Room Tip: Spa Suites are the way to go at this property

To round out school vacation we stayed at the inn Saturday night. As others have commented some of the rooms are showing their age more than others. The room we had in the presidential wing, met all our creature comforts and then some. Not much for a view in most rooms, but the beautiful pool area makes up for this. A bit difficult at times to swim laps due to so many kids - tourney time and vacation - despite the roped off lanes. The biggest surprise was just how good the food was. Not only was the complimentary continental breakfast delicious, but the variety of food offered was astounding - more than generous! Will definitely make plans to dine again soon!!

Room Tip: Getting a room in the 300 series ensures a more updated/comfortable room, but does put you away from...
