“Loved it!”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

Only 4 stars because of quality of food from room service and and the pool area closes to early(9 pm) and no microwave and needs two luggage holders, not just one.
Okay, the furniture was not new and modern or quite antique yet, but the beds and accommodations were very clean, very well appointed and very comfortable (no mold, dust and carpets were vacuumed, linens were clean).
We had a deluxe double room. There was a phone, refrigerator and TV in the over sized bathroom (convenient for watching while putting on make up or lounging in the tub). The hotel staff were amazing, Upon walking in, there was a massage therapist offering free 5 minute chair massages, it was a nice perk and she didn't even accept my tip!
The pool/spa area was huge, and absolutely beautiful! It was well appointed with a huge pool, nice jacuzzi and steam room, and small gym. Additional spa services were available for purchase. I only wish it was open later. The room service was barely adequate, and most of the food wasn't great or even good. The lobster club however was wonderful ($$) but the pizza was rubbery and the shrimp cocktail had no presentation, just laid out on a plate with a mini cup of boring sauce for dipping. The shrimp had absolutely NO flavor.
We loved that our room had both an inside and outside entrance (nice in the snow) and the hotel is huge! It was an over sized room which also needed two luggage holders rather than just one.
I would stay there again for sure, but would not order room service! The price for the value was very good.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the deluxe double!

We stayed here on our wedding night. We had only reserved a regular room, but when the staff found out it was our wedding night they upgraded us to a presidential suite free of charge. We were extremely surprised by this! Our room had a great fireplace and tub with jets. The spa, pool and hot tub were also great. The breakfast food was amazing, and I liked that they made eggs to order instead of the usual cold/scrambled found in breakfast buffets. We look forward to staying here again sometime!

Recently spent the weekend at The Senator. Was a bit concerned after reading reviews on other travel websites but was pleasantly surprised with our stay. Room was very clean and spacious. Staff was very nice and accomodating. Very cozy and relaxing environment. Will definately return to The Senator!!!!

We are a grooup of 19 people who have had a superb time at the Senator when we visited Augusta for a Family Wedding. We were made really welcome and the rooms (especially the giant beds) the Service, the Food (breakfast and dinner) and the Spa were first class.
They even cleared the snow off the cars and helped with the fancy dress outfits for Halloween.

Room Tip: Go for the Kingsize Bed

The Senator is a nice place to stay - especially if you've got a child at Colby College - just up the highway. The staff were courteous and very efficient, the room was large and clean, the bed very comfortable and the rates were great. The one thing that really ruined our stay was the noise. Now, granted, the hotel can't control their customers, but at one o'clock in the morning a party started in the room next. The door that joined the rooms made it seem as though the party was in our room. We could hear every word of the many drunken conversations that were going on. At the same time the bathroom sink drain began to gurgle and glug and that went on for about half an hour. At six am, children in the hall became our alarm clock and we finally gave up any hope of getting sleep. With only four hours of sleep under our belts we checked out and headed home. There must be some quiet rooms in this large establishment, so when you make your reservation be sure to ask. I will note that they have a good sea food bar and great coffee in the morning.

The spa, pool, hot tub, exercise facility were excellent. Nice pub for a drink. Downtown Augusta is dead, but we were told that Hallowell had some nice places for the evening.
I booked a half-price room on the internet (booking.com), so am wondering if the older block of rooms that we were in were "special". The furniture, was once very nice, but now dinged. Paint peeling off the door. Mold in the tub caulking. Bathroom - old floor and wall tiles - probably trying for a retro 60's look, but too many chips, cracks, and a very dingy looking floor. Complimentary breakfast buffet included everything, so was fine. Room came with a fridge and micro-wave. Overall, this was a good value, considering that it was parents weekend. I would do this again because of the spa, and the friendly staff.

It has been quite awhile since we could get away by ourselves for a few days. I had always wanted to go a Murder Mystery Dinner. We really enjoyed ourselves and the room was great. We really enjoyed the massages too. Hope to see you again in the future. Sheila and Fred Jobber
