“Great away-from-the-malls spot to eat”
Review of Downtown Diner

Downtown Diner
Ranked #3 of 96 Restaurants in Augusta
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: American
Description: Was formerly the Bond Brook Pancake House, Mt Vernon Ave, Augusta, ME. Owners had an opportunity to move into a restored, historic building in the heart of the downtown business district. Even managed to preserve a stained-glass storefront-wide window advertising a shoe store which occupied the site in the original building. Specializes in breakfast and lunch, opening at 5:30 or 6:00 most mornings and closing at 2:00. Numerous breakfast combination plates available whenever they're open. Soup-and-sandwich specials daily featuring their home-made soups and chowders. Simple, straight-forward seating, reasonablle prices, and a staff that can be as fun or formal as you like. Real favorite with "the locals", the local electric and telephone line crews, and downtown office workers. Would suggest Trip Advisor discontinue Bond Brook Pancake House listing -- business no longer exists and rental property where they used to be is now vacant.

Really enjoyed our lunch here. Appears like a family atmosphere. Food is unpretentious, tasty, and seems to cater to the locals. A true original. Highly recommended to people passing through Augusta.

“A true down-home Maine place”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Good food that is not over-priced, pleasant waitresses, clean, old fashioned interior. Frequented by the locals as a mark of approval. Could use better noise dampening and efforts to capture the potential of a historic interior.

“A great breakfast and/or lunch choice!”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

When visiting Augusta this little diner is a "must" stop! Excellent food, reasonable prices, and the staff is very friendly and are sure to let you know they are happy to see you. We were visiting Augusta to see the state capitol and stopped here for lunch...we had the haddock sandwich and the meatloaf sandwich which are two of our favorite meals and these did not disappoint! They were both delicious and the portions were generous. We were so happy we stopped here...don't miss it!

“Breakfast”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

I have breakfast there every week. Since the move from Mt Vernon Ave. the new place has ambiance and the owner an staff are some of the friendliest people you could ever meet. The food is prepared very well and the price is extremely reasonable. Highly recommend you try it.

“Homemade from scratch, with friendly service in historic downtown with view of Fort Western”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

The Downtown Diner is my favorite place for both a breakfast or a light lunch in Augusta. They always have great specials, homemade bread, and the best blueberry pie around! Can't go wrong with the waffles or haddock chowder. The Diner staff are always fun and friendly!
